I have two engines, a 2-4-2 Lionchief Basic and a NW2 Lionchief plus. It is a great system. The Odyssey II speed control really makes the control different on the NW2. The NW2 uses near the entire wheel for speed settings and has more lag, while the 2-4-2 has little controller lag. The NW2 has sound channels for announcements, engine sounds, couplers, bell, whistle, and a one for announcements. The 2-4-2 has two sound channels, one for steam chuff the second for announcements, bell and whistle, and for the air compressor, assuming I hear them correctly. The NW2 has on remote volume control from too loud too near silent, while the 2-4-2 has no volume control. They are hard to run together due to the different numbers of speed steps and slightly different motor protection set ups.

If you don't want to listen to the bell all day with small children, get a Plus engine, one of the few Lionchief sets with a volume pot or disable the bell button on the basic sets remote. More expensive, but less annoyance. (Thomas is not supposed to have a bell anyway, or any British Isle engine while in the UK the last I knew)

Running both on a TW ver B together makes me suspect ( apples and oranges comparison here) the 72 watt for 4 Amp. DC Lionchief transformer is still a single engine, but plus engine transformer.

"LionChief + I would go with MTH Railking instead for a better overall train for the $"

Depends on the setting. The MTH choice is not as good value if you have two kids (or even adults ) who want to control their locomotives simultaneously and independently.  For that you have to spring for more than the cost of your set or an additional locomotive with the MTH. DCS runs about $300.  A 50% increase in cost to get true command control is a pretty steep price to pay when you're just starting out in the hobby.  MTH Railking is only better value for those who already have DCS.
