I thought that was the case, but I didn't feel like taking the car apart again to see if I could find the sensor. It's not the wheel sensor, it's actually mounted on the board. It gives me hope that I can get a similar feature working, I have the accelerometers.
gunrunnerjohn posted:I was led to believe there was actually sensing for curves, but that's a question for Rudy or Jon I suspect.
The reefer and boxcar with sound do not sense curves, just speed.
Rudy, do the Ethanol tank cars sense curves? I was pretty sure I noted that operating them, was I mistaken?
They do, but I think they are the only ones with that feature. However, all these products vary their sounds based on speed.
OK, I wasn't imagining things with the tankers. I thought they were very cool sounding cars, if I could find another set, I'd jump on them. Maybe it's time for a re-issue of the tank car set.
The VL stock car, produced at the same time as the ethanol tank cars, also senses curves, activating flange squeal. I must say, this effect is very cool.
One problem with the stock car, however, is that because it's a traditionally sized car, the two pickup rollers are fairly close together, and sometimes, going over O72 switches, there's a momentary loss of power that causes the sounds to shut down. It would be nice if this car had come with provision for a backup battery to prevent this.
Gunrunner, sometime, when you have a chance, would you see what happens when you move the Min/Max switch on the stock car to Min. I don't hear a difference with my stock car.

I know I'm joining the party a little late but I read the entire post and I didn't see anything mentioned (or I'm just not seeing it) by Rudy, Jon or Mike about how the sound is activated on the Sound Cars vs. the VL Reefers. Is the sound in the PS1 cars activated by motion?
Thanks in advance.
Mike
Yes, there is a sensor on the axle that sense when the car is moving, that's when the sounds are generated. There is no command capability in the PS1 cars, it's just triggered on motion. The is a MIN/MAX switch to adjust the amount and variety of sounds.
Thanks John.
Mike
My take is that the PS-1 cars would be just like the VL cars, when run in conventional. And that is fine by me. I can't wait to get the lot of them when they come in.
The Vision Reefers have command control per the catalog. Thinking that the dialog loading and unloading features that were in the first Vision line reefer release will be in this new release . Anyone know if this is the case. ?
That's what I expect, though none of us have heard them to be sure.
