I have the Legacy Berk 4199 (6-11387) - it is a great loco.

In the spirit of full disclosure, I will state that I never tested it out of the box for how much it pulls.  I modified the cab to make it a bit more scale with respect to the prototype and added a few cosmetic changes, but I did nothing I think would affect its ability to pull and in this respect I think it is the same as it was on day one.  Mine will maintain a steady 25 - 65 mph - whatever I set it at - without breaking out of cruise or indicating it is near its limit, while pulling 28 scale reefers, 5 PS-4 flatcars with double-trailer loads and a scale caboose up around a 72" diameter curve that is climbing at 2%.  These are all very modern, well-cared for cars with very good low-friction axles and bearings, etc., but that is still quite a load in my opinion.

I agree here 100%.  I have pulled a 40 car train with both of my scale Berks (PM 1225 and NKP 765) on level track, and neither had a problem starting and pulling the train, and of the 40 cars, 17 of them were heavy die-cast coal hoppers.

The Lionel or the "K-Line" models? Doesn't the K-Line have a smaller moter mounted in the nose?

The newer Lionel "early berks" with the "k line tooling" have very large can motors unlike the k line originals.

In fact the can motor used in the legacy "k line tooled " early/ smaller" berks is signifigantly larger than the can motor used in the "later/larger" Lionel tooled legacy berks like the 1225 and 765.

I think the only advantage of the Lionel 1225/765 would be that they are heavier.

The "k line tooled" legacy berk should be able to pull whatever you put behind it until the drag overcomes the lighter weight of the loco resulting in wheel spin.
