Bad news if you ordered these engines. I ordered both units. I received an email from Chris at Nassau saying Lionel has cancelled them. Not because of the lack of orders, because Chris said he had many, but due to licensing agreements. Bummer!

It seems a bit odd that they didn't secure permission BEFORE cataloging it....
I wonder why Lionel needs a licensing agreement at all, and how much is the cost? The UP, BNSF, CSX, and NS certainly don't charge much.
I had these engines on order as well. They are super-sharp in reality. Maybe one day...
Seems like Lionel should have some type of update section on their website regarding product cancellations.
The other magazine's Product News for December features the Lionel 83074 New Haven Trail Liner set. This item along with the 83077 Merchandise boxcar were canceled back in March, at the time a list was sent to dealers with about a dozen or so other product cancellations.

I sure would like to know the details of what kept them from an agreement.
I thought that Mike Wolf with the Up licensing agreement straighten all that out? I guess not!
That's too bad for the rr as it would have been good publicity not only for this sd70ace but the c 420,

Mike Wolf straightened it all out with the Union Pacific (they abbreviate their railroad "UP")! Obviously the Arkansas & Missouri was NOT involved in that "agreement".

Maybe the A&M really was not interested in THAT kind of "publicity"?
I was wondering why they never made A&M ALCo diesels and freight cars in the past 15 years. Now I know.
Andrew
Dang, my grandpa ordered one of these from Charles Ro, was looking forward to it.
Replace it with a Ferromex SD70ace!!!!!!
I work in Springdale, AR. and know the man in charge of the A&M. I might just ask him about it. I wanted one really badly also. I see then every day and the old Alcos they have been nursing along also.
Couldn't care less about this engine, but one of their Alcos is about the only diesel I'd like to have.
Atlas has produced HO scale, A&M, C420's in the past. I wonder what they did about licensing?
Lionel did have some UPS, that is, "Brown" items in the cat once and had them pulled for legal reasons.
Well the Man in charge of the A&M is now longer there and his Wife has taken over. I went by there office back when he was in charge and tried to get an audience with him but never worked out. I went by there again just before Christmas this year and left my info and got a call back. He said he is going to research it and get back to me. I will let you know what there position is now they are under new management.
I and two friends eail fanned the A&M for several days in 2005 or so. Pacing 4 MU's Alcos was a trart - not something common in the 21st Century.
Didn't know about the Lionel A&M SD70; tempting, and I don't buy anything anymore.
