Well folks, I'm still picking my jaw up off the keyboard.  If I were standing when I saw my computer screen, I'd probably be picking my jaw up off the floor.    The latest online shipping schedule now shows these passenger cars as shipping -- are you ready for it??? -- MAY 2013  Oh my.  It seems like these cars have encountered more delays than the ZW-L.  Unbelievable.

David

P.S.  BTW, to nobody's surprise, LOTS of stuff that had a DEC 2012 date has now been moved to 2013 in this latest update to the shipping schedule. So Santa's sleigh will be traveling a bit lighter this year after all.

The real question is whether or not to believe any of these dates anymore.  The situation is what it is.  But to see these seemingly random date changes as we've seen this year just further supports my thinking that what's left of our beloved toy train companies here in the States doesn't have a gosh-darn clue when stuff is even being manufactured overseas -- much less when they're gonna ship.  Gotta be very frustrating to work in this type of environment where so little is in their control anymore.  Very sad.

Nothing quite like getting in the way of folks wanting to spend $$$, than not being able to even make the stuff.

Waaaah!   I'm wondering if I'll ever get to see these coaches. I'm waiting for those and the CZ coaches to go with my F7s and F3s. Please Lionel, please ship them while I'm still around to enjoy them.

That is a made in U.S.A. item, so it should have a different production path than some of the other items.

I am waiting on these to come out as well. Time is getting along and I have to factor in shipping time to the UK.

The tractor-trailers were moved back on Oct. 9 and they just pushed the CN Piggyback sets back to May 13. I was wondering why the sets were not moved back since the sets come with a tractor-trailer included.

It's a bit surprising that noone asked Lionel about the Milwaukee cars at York, or if they did, that there wasn't anything posted about it.

Could be another chance to ask about them at the next York.

This is just the usual year end "dump everything into 'Shipping in December'" deal. Most of it never does make it until after the new year and then the dealers are stuck with it until the next Christmas season. Happens year after year but they have no choice but to put up with it. I learned long ago to NEVER depend upon anything listed for "December shipping" to make it in time for CHristmas.

Those MPC Limited sets were, and still are, really nice sets. Very colorful, with interesting cars. Some minor trivia: the Quaker City set was unique among the Limited sets because it came with 7 cars, for some reason. All the other sets came with 6 cars.

I think i'll be calling the dealer where I have this pre-ordered tomorrow to see if they have an ETA.  Here we are at November 14...  and the shipping schedule still says NOV 2012 for this jewel.  So I sure hope this far into November, Lionel here in the States knows by now whether this loco will ship this month or not.  Right?    But then again it's not showing up on the list that Charlie posted above for items shipping later in November -- or even in early December for that matter!  I guess I'm now completely confused.

I called the dealer today, and they couldn't confirm EITHER way whether or not the remaining UP 4-12-2 #9000's will arrive soon or not.  At this point, I'm now convinced that even Lionel doesn't seem to know with any degree of certainty what's arriving in the next container from overseas.

Safest bet is to ignore the posted shipping schedule(s), and just wait for your dealer to call when items are received.

David

I think I'm now about DONE with this thread.  I'll leave it on a note that pretty much explains the bewilderment that goes along with attempting to make heads or tails with the online shipping schedule!!!

When the NYC heavyweights were originally catalog'd, there were THREE sku's:

6-25713 - 4pk  (Oct 2012)

6-25718 - 2pk  (Oct 2012)

6-25721 - StationSounds diner  (Nov 2012), but product was cancelled and replaced with #6-25790, a diner with no sounds.

Now for 6-25790, the schedule lists:

6-25790 - diner car  (Dec 2012)

This item has been dropped.

WTF???  So now there's no diner car at all for this set?  Sure, there are worse things in life.  A LOT worse, in fact.  But you gotta admit something is definitely amiss with either the shipping schedule's accuracy... or if it's accurate, then who knows (literally) what the heck is happening with production in the overseas factory.

Enough time & energy wasted on this one.

Thanks Jim-  that was the set that got me started in this hobby.  For me it was always  the PPL hopper!

breezinup - The boxes on those MPC "limited edition" sets were pretty sweet too.

On the scale front, the Christmas items are trickling in slowly.  Very slowly.  It's gonna be a crapshoot regarding the Polar Express scale passenger cars.  Shipping schedule has the two new Polar Express scale cars (combine and non-sounds diner) slipping to Dec 2012, which is really anyone's guess at this point.  Seems updates are being made almost daily to the schedule.

Let's hope for the best.

On the Polar Railroad front, the new SD80MAC practically arrived with the catalog in late Summer, which is a pleasant surprise when that happens.  And it already appears to be a difficult find if you want one.  The new round-roof box car just arrived in hobby shops this week.  Very nice car done up in the red/green/silver Christmas paint scheme, new for the Polar RR this year.  But the matching PS-2 covered hopper has already slipped to JAN 2013 according to the latest shipping schedule update.

As in all years... Some stuff makes it... Others don't.  Last year's big item to miss Christmas was the Polar RR reindeer stock car, which finally cruised into stores in May.    So late that the reindeer migrated back north, and many of the cars were delivered with cows.  If you got one with reindeer, you were lucky.

And so it goes...
