I have this idea and don't know how to make it a reality as I am very technology challenged so I thought I would share and get a realty check from those whom may know better.

I've wanted a Lionel AC6000 superbass engine for a bit now but don't like the csx color scheme so my idea is this;

Take the Lionel superbass electronics out of the engine or purchase separately if possible.

Separate the signal receiver electronics from the amplifier and speaker.

Solder a male rca "Y"  adaptor lead as outputs from the signal receiver electronics using a ( 1F to 2M adaptor but cut off the female end )

power the electronics with a standard 12volt ac wall adaptor or whatever it takes to power up the Lionel circuit and plug the rca's into a powered home theatre subwoofer.  The subwoofer could be hidden under the center of your layout or wherever you choose.  Since bass is Omni directional, the sound would be everywhere.  the Lionel electronics could/should still be able to be programmed into your legacy controller as an engine I think.  In reality the engine is not there but the sound is thus giving any consist superbass!

Can this idea work or am I crazy?

 Sounds interesting..for over a year now i have tapped off( see 5 engine MU in the middle of the video) a ps3 host #4 engine speaker leads to a fm wireless transmitter adapter sitting in #5 engine which broadcasts over the air to a portable fm radio>headphone jack to powered subwoofer. Believe me, a complete game changer.

Yep certified. But aren't we all?

You may want to look at using a stationary sound system. There used to be a guy selling a digital sound system that would blow your socks off at our local train show. Diesel base that went right through you, complete with bell and horn(s)... would love to have one of these.

Lionel's audio engineers lopped everything below 200 Hz off the sound recordings many years ago. They said that the speakers in the loco could not support low frequencies and that these frequencies were just wasting power.

Did that change? Are the low frequencies back in the recordings now?

Wasn't sure if this post deserved it's own thread but I was looking at this thread and one other recent speaker thread

https://ogrforum.com/t...51#39441157031885051

then started going through a bunch of train emails and came across what might be the holy grail to model train layout sound.  A quick search of the forum did not turn up any info on this - maybe because it is of a different scale, but with so many of us in multiple scales or at least followers of train hobby news I thought I'd find a related posting.

Over the years, I and others posted how it would be a great feature if we could easily integrate our trains' sounds to a subwoofer in the room.  The tech, hardware and cost to transmit the actual loco's sounds often seemed to be the hang-up.  Along comes wifi then blutooth and smaller circuitry and the possibilities seem closer.

Looks like the folks at BLI found a way to provide this feature in their HO/N Paragon offerings with their upcoming Rolling Thunder system.  Got to hand it to Bob Grubba and BLI staff on what looks to possibly be a very interesting and attractive product.  Makes me wonder why none of the O gauge companies have developed this type of product. (Note: Williams by Bachmann might be on a related path w/ their upcoming blutooth control feature)

After all the years of having to listen to O gaugers poo-poo the anemic sound of HO & N products as compared to the Railsounds-1/2/3/4/5 and Proto-1/2/3, imagine the smug looks all those N & HO gaugers will have when they first show their O gauge "buddies" their new engine w/ sound that fills the room and thumps the chest.

PER THEIR WEBSITE;

"The system consists of the Paragon3 sound system  in the locomotive, with its integral

Rolling  ThunderTM transmitter,  aRolling ThunderTM receiver box under the layout,

 and a powered  subwoofer.  Rolling ThunderTM receiver works with any  Rolling ThunderTM equipped Paragon3 locomotive"

would be nice to find out how exactly the "paragon3" system attaches in the loco.
