Thanks--how long ago was that??. I saw one there and the seller pulled before the auction finished--I was bidding on, but that was years ago--Thanks again, Rick
Must have been December 2012, judging by the file date.
Just curious, do you have a 5E?
No I don't--weird little thing, I suppose it is like an oscilloscope with a needle to allow you to adjust the RF used on the electronic set. Would love to see a schematic for it!
No, it's not an oscilloscope. It has a Simpson 5 milliamp meter.
Here is an EBay auction for a non-functional replica.
For a long time the board moderators allowed Ebay links for educational purposes. Lately they have been deactivating the links. We'll see how long this lasts.
Does anyone out there even have a 5 test set? I have never actually seen one. Was this a prototype for the 5A and 5B or did they actually produce them for the service stations to purchase? Anyone know what year they were made?
there 1500.00 to 3000.00 if you got plenty of money!
Alan
Thanks for the response Alan! I was however specifically referring to the Lionel 5 test set pictured above. I have examples of all the other test sets and the prewar ones go for at last double the price of the postwar ones.
I have never seen a 5 test set, and the only picture of one seems to be of the one above that is an old and incomplete one from Ebay.
Any information from the forum members out there would be appreciated.
I know the prewar 5A and 5B were production items but wondering if the Lionel 5 was some sort of prototype or produced in extremely limited numbers and whether any have survived other than the one pictured above?
