i have two post war lionel trolleys ; they are great. However the splines on one of the wheels are stripped and the wheel doesn't stay on. One of the online retailers has a set of wheels- is it an easy fit?

You may need a wheel puller or small size gear puller to remove the wheels without any damage to the trolley. I have used a vise and a nail with a hammer to remove some of my Williams wheels and remount them with a small C clamp.

Well, if the wheel doesn't stay on, you obviously aren't going to have any problem getting it off. The question is, exactly what is stripped? The inside opening of the wheel, or the splined axle?
As for putting a new wheel on, I'm no expert, but the one time I had to put new wheels on their shafts (Lionel 252) I used a small vise. The trick is to make sure they're straight when you press them on. Otherwise, you'll end up with a wobble.
