Hey everybody,

Haven't been on the Forum for too long and already finding myself making more posts on here it seems. Anyway, I was wondering if you guys could help me out with something. I have been looking at Lionel's Union Pacific Heritage Unit SD70ACe's and I have noticed Lionel has done two different runs. The key differences I have noticed with these two runs is the fact:

Number 1: The Road Numbers of the Units are Different

Pretty self explanatory, The First Run had the Road Numbers of the actual Heritage Units (Year the Railroad was purchased by Union Pacific) and The Second Run had the Road Number of the year the Fallen Flag was originally founded.

For Comparison:

1996 = 1865
1995 = 1859
1989 = 1870
1988 = 1870
1983 = 1903
1982 = 1851

Number 2: Sounds

The sounds of these models are different when you compare each run, more specifically the Horn and Bell, and also things like The Crew Talk Dialog. The First Run was made when Lionel still did the Road Name & Road Number Specific Crew Talk Dialog whilst the second run has the Generic Crew Talk Lionel has been using for the past few years now.

And that's all I really know about these locomotives. So this is where I would like to ask for your help. I am not really aware of the visual differences of these Locos and by that I mean, it seems like to me the Second Run has a more glossy appearance to it. It may just be my eyes playing tricks on me. I couldn't find any pictures or videos comparing the two runs so I thought asking here would hopefully shed some light on this.

If there is any other differences you may notice about these locos, I would love to know, side-by-side comparison photos of models from each run would be spectacular!

Thank you much.

Extra deep flanges on the first run caused them to hop over turnouts.

I use to own a 1995 & 1988 and never had a single problem with that. First time I have heard about this actually.

What brand of track & turnouts were you running them on?  The issue with oversized wheel flanges was VERY WELL publicized here on the OGR forum.

I believe it was Gargraves (Ran them at a Club). I recently started using the Forum so I haven't seen anything else like that before, sorry.

I have a few first runs and the smoke units are always on, you have to shut them off every time you power up the loco plus the did some bs to the radiator covers that doesn't let them stay on right

I recall having to deal with that when I still had my 1995 and 1988 but, I love smoking out a room so it wasn't a big problem for me!

The Radiator Covers never seemed to have any issues for me.
