Contacted Lionel this morning about a warranty repair. No problem, send RMA right out. Asked about veteran (USAF 24 years) shipping - she said they really don't do that anymore. Something they do around Christmas. Did not know the program stopped. FYI.

first I heard of that. Vet friend just got free shipping at the beginning of Aug 13.

I wonder if that is just some clerical person making her own decision?
Yeah, those clerical people.
I also want to say what happen to me a few months ago. I filled out the form for service on the Lionel web site. Heard nothing for over a week, so I email takltous@lionel . com and heard back the next day. talk to us said that the Lionel form goes to a different location but that talk to us goes direct to us. I took that to mean that talk to us is in Ohio and the on line form is in North Carolina.
might be the same with the phone. I only use the talk to us email and have gotten much better service.
Have a word with Mike Reagan. Mike is a Army vet (don't hold that against him) and set up the free veteran shipping.
Nick
(My grandfather was USAF)
I believe this was originally set up for free shipping for vets for items still under warranty only. That is what Mike told me. Do not know if that still is in effect.
Wow - Someone at Lionel reads the forum! Just got a call from customer service saying they were sending me call tag for my warranty repair item and they would pay shipping both ways! I'm impressed. Thanks to both Lionel & OGR forum.
I am glad it worked out for you. Actually I had no doubts that Lionel would react favorably. When Mike Reagan makes a statement, people generally listen. Apparently the individual you first spoke did not listen or the word had not trickled down to them. In either case, you are a winner.
Stop Calling the customer service lady.
Email Lionel at the service/repair question link.
This will bypass the "clerical people" and get you in touch with the folks that actually do the repairs and know what they're talking about.

Funny, but you would think that by now, that "issue" would have been addressed and corrected.

Well I think Mike Reagan probably has more important things to do instead of answering phone calls.
The "customer service lady" thing certainly isn't a new idea. Most places you call regarding a question about a product have someone there simply following protocol.
Perhaps change the title of this thread to "UPDATED: Lionel Continues to offer Vet Shipping"r
Someone will latch on to the thread title and before you know it will be all over the interwebs that they no longer do shipping for vets
I applauded Mike R. when he started the free shipping for Vets and am glad that they still do honor those that served. Having served in Vietnam it does cause me to shift my train hobby spending more their way.
And I agree either the poster or the Forum Moderator needs to change the title before wrong information is disseminated.
While not a vet, I applaud this type of program. Recognizing those who gave their service to our country in this way is a great gesture!
