I have a problem with this transformer. I just bought it on E bay. I checked it out it works as it should but when i took the top cover off i found that the secondary coil can be moved back and forth. How can i fix this? Also i would like to replace rollers, circuit breaker and cord even though the cord is fine. Where is the best place to get good ZW parts. Thanks in advance for replying. One thing i forgot to mention, if i remove the coil support rods and push the coil support brackets together the coil is tight but i am leery of bending the rods.

A couple of suggestions:

  • Consider buying a copy of Greenberg's Repair and Operating Manual for Lionel Trains as it contains parts diagrams and information on repairing virtually everything from Lionel's Post-War period (including the ZW).
  • With the information from this book, you can then identify individual parts by their Lionel part number. Using that, you can then visit any one of the many great businesses that sell spare parts.  My two favorites have been Just Trains and Brasseur Electric Trains.

Best of luck!

Thanks JTrains, i need to get a copy of that book. I have the Kline book but it doesn't have the info that i need. I understand that this is a common problem with the ZW.
