I have had issues with my 6-11149 Big Boy, and I bought mine brand new old stock in 2019. Mine kept intermittently speeding up out of control, like it was in conventional mode running on full throttle. I took it apart and started unplugging plugs and plugging them back in repeatedly to self clean the plugs and their connectors. I did the same thing with the R2LC board. I also sprayed tuner cleaner carefully on the plugs, to help clean the contacts. A trick I learned working on VCR's and a camcorder. Very important to do every single one, to rule out poor connection. My Big Boy has not malfunctioned again as of yet. I have started it up and run it at least twenty times or so, and so far so good. Try self cleaning your plugs, and connectors. Being careful not to pull on the wires very hard, take your time. Pry the plugs apart with a thin blade if possible to avoid stress on the wires. And when your done be sure that every connection on that chassis is properly plugged in. Make sure ground wires are tight etc. Maybe it is not a malfunctioning board, rather poor connection. Since the electronics are no longer available for this locomotive, it is worth a shot.
