Happy New year everyone,

I wonder if anyone can help with my problem thanks. I posted on the main forum and it was suggested that I also post here.

I was running the above yesterday with its usual load of 21 PFE Reefers when it started to hesitate and jerk. It made it round to where I was and I thought "derailment" - but no and nothing tripped out.

I decided to inspect the engine and removed the boiler - nothing obvious - re seated the radio board, checked other connections - no broken wires that I can see. No difference so did a full re-set as per manual.

I now have an engine that will run forward with all features from power up but will not reverse. I have full sound whilst in reverse setting but no go

Once you hit the direction button no movement backwards , if you hit it again no movement forwards - if I power down completely I can regain forward motion but that's all – which I assume is always the default start up .

I am running TMCC cab1 - and other TMCC /Legacy engines on my track run fine

Could it be the "691DCDS10F DCDS-J MOTOR DRIVER / TETHERED BRIDGE S11 CODE" that has failed as very kindly suggested in reply to my original post?

If so can anyone fix it or is it a new part from Lionel please? Its quite expensive hence the ask

I am in England so no local repair person either !.

Thanks

MIKE

I have a hunch it's something in your gearing.  That's an old unit and you run a decent size consist.  Any chance you have worn your gearing or side rods enough that when you try to reverse things are bound.  Consider removing the motors from the trucks and then test it.  If the motors spin then that proves the motors, boards, and connections are good.

Also, if the main motor is bad for reverse only then the slave motor will not move either.

Have you tested conventionally only?  That can rule out the radio board.

Mike it might be if a Motor Driver Fet failed.  Inspect for burned trace, broken solder joints on the board, especially at the FETs.  I have  BB driver in stock, but S01 code.  Or you can go to Legacy Back EMF as a cheaper alternative.  Otherwise you have to get the Lionel Board and hope that was it.  Sometimes the wire breaks under the insulation so look hard at the 6 plug.  But if it runs in one direction the motor leads and AC in really are probably ok on that connector.  G

Thanks G - I looked closely at all the wires and the board but cant see burned trace or broken solder joints. Could it be a dry joint?  I think on balance I will order a  new board in any case as i have a number of Lionmaster Legacy Challengers with the same set up.

Thanks for all you input.

Steims - a valid point but already checked and no binding.

MIKE
