I have two tinplate locomotives my father left me. I am missing the white ( I think) metal mini flags that are inserted on each side of boiler. Does anyone know where I can locate these as replacements. I send inquiry to MTH but have not heard back. would be interested in getting two or three sets.

Appreciate  help.

Pappy,

There is NO difference between the "0" gauge and Standard gauge flags.

Lionel had two part numbers:

390-76 a set of two white flags  First used for the 390/390E Steamer.

and

381-93 a set of four white flags  First used on the 381/381U/381E Bipolar loco

Lionel states that they were for "All Locos"

Extracted from Lionel 1933 and 1936 "Replacement Parts" booklets.

Pappy,

I was only trying to correct a misconception.

Remember that Lionel was a corporation that was trying to be as profitable as feasible therefore they used as many of common parts as possible and have an absolute minimum number of different but similar parts.

You may have different sized flags but unless you have them in an original Lionel parts envelope with the part number stamped on it, you are only surmising that Lionel produced an "0" gauge size and a Standard gauge size. What you currently have could be either reproductions OR they slipped by Lionel's inspectors.

Offer to help another forum member and you guys try to crucify me. Find a tree and string me up. Geez!! Persons like yourselves wonder why other members drop out of sight. I'm gonna try to make the best of my time. I'll be around for a while longer, so get over it. I've nothing to apologize for so don't expect any.  NUFF SAID??

I don't know about 0 gauge vs. Standard Gauge, but I do know that, as Ron M has pointed out, Lionel produced flags with two different shaft diameters for different flag holders. Some of the parts sellers list these flags according to which locomotives they fit, and some just as large or small. According to Olsen's, the shaft diameters are .068 for the 381E and others and .078 for the 390E and others. Both of these are Standard Gauge. Anyone ordering flags should check their flag holders or existing flags to see which size will fit.
