Last year a LHS had 50% off on all used items.   This Lionel 18009 was $500 marked down to $250.  A classic "Let me tell you about the big one that got away".   What was I thinking?

Dave:  you can still find these fairly easily in the $250-275 price range. I just sold a nice one in LN condition at a TCA Meet in CLE this past November for.....$250.

Also, check Gryzboskis if you have a free moment.

I missed 2 engines that I regret

MTH Central New England GP-20   - runs along the University of Hartford campus where I am a professor. I often see the 1:1 on my way in.

Weaver NECR  GP-38 - runs through the woods behind my house. If I walk towards the end of our street, I can see the headlight of an evening train. We often go for coffee at the Cushman General store (Amherst, MA). The northbound NECR freight often stops there for coffee.

Not so much for those I let get away, as the ones I sold, for whatever reason ("What was I thinking!!") I did so at the time.  But, I have reacquired most of the regrettably sold items, only a couple I have not replaced.  But, those are so "rare" that I may never.... oh well.  All in all, I have realized, as many have, just can't have them all.... but when did that stop anyone?  Yet, very happy, delirious, almost, for what I do have and have added to what my father and I ran together years ago and I still have.

I had a Lionel RS-11 in Delaware and Hudson colors, great sound, ran well and smoked well. A friend bugged me until I sold it to him, four months later he either sold it or traded it. It seems to be a tough one to find. I did find a C-420 in D&H, which I like. TMCC is fun, at a lower cost than Legacy, but Legacy is a lot easier to use, and works TMCC locos and Legacy locos.

I let a Lionel 219 AA Missouri Pacific diesel set go and regretted.  It was at Daves, a train collectors house in Pittsburgh, when I was visiting my parents who lived there. I was living in Kingston, Jamaica at the time.  I called Dave and told him I wanted it.  My Dad went over and got it for me and I got on my next trip to the states six months later.  Some times you get a second chance.

Recently I passed on a Lionel General 4-4-0 1862 set at a train show, not deciding I wanted one until thinking about it awhile.  I was able to get an other one at the next TCA train meet in Ponchatoula, LA for less money.  Some times you get a second chance.

Normally when I miss some train item I jot it down on my running train Want List so will be looking for it next time.

Here they are.  Notice the illuminated number board on the left I added and the wire at the back that provides power from the shown A unit to the dummy A unit lights.

Here is a Caboose I painted up to match the Missouri Pacific colors.
