I'm not putting this on the "wanted to buy" Forum because there is a time crunch. The Lionel track they want in the Robin Williams movie (see Need advice for model train used as movie prop) has to be the Lionel 027 track with brown ties. Made from about 1970 to the mid 1990's. It needs to be new or like new. Allan is going to do a magazine article on the train in the movie so your track is will not only be in the movie but in the magazine. Looks like the movie company is going to help us out with stills of the movie set with the train and hopefully Robin. Please let me know ASAP if you have any of this new looking track. Don

That’s great. Are they still looking towards using the Milwaukee Special? I love that set. But if they decide to silence the Mighty Sound of Steam. I would suggest replacing the Tender chassis with the Williams S-2 Tender equipped with a True Blast bell & whistle. In my opinion it’s the best sounding Steam whistle in the industry. Plus it would have the added benefit of creating the controversy the rivet counters crave and help keep the movie alive in the minds of us train geeks for decades to come. Of course this is just the humble opinion of a natural born antagonist who happens to be a train geek in his own mind.

I wonder if someone should explain to them how to drill holes in the fixed couplers of the passenger cars and and use staples to hold them together so they don't seperate during an inopportune moment in filming?

They all did(except for two SSS sets) after 1969 and up to FasTrack.

I am not sure where the cutoff was, but at least the 1970-1972 sets had actual wood grain litho on the ties, and had hollow/rolled track pins.

I really don't think that the ties would/could be spotted on the silver screen, though.

If you’re willing to work with the idiosyncrasies this is a great set. It takes a beating and keeps on running. I can attest to the staple trick working with the couplers. Unfortunately the video camera wasn’t running when my 3 year old nephew took over the controls and all the cars followed the engine over the edge. The kid in me always wanted to build up the courage to duplicate that stunt but the adult in me is pretty firm in saying NO. However if I was making a comedy motion picture and I had a couple backups…

Honestly, for a couple of quick scenes in a movie, it's not going to be the least bit obvious or distracting if the O27 track is 100% "right" so long as it all matches.  As was noted in some earlier post, 99.99% of the audience who sees this film won't notice or care one bit, and that fraction of a percent (if even that) who may notice or care, really doesn't matter at all.
