Looking for simple way to drop voltage for Trolley speed control without controller

Absolutely NOT how it works. Once you set the accessory output, it stays there indefinitely, for years in storage even. Follow the instructions exactly to "set it and forget it".

Ok wow so out of 3 CW80 transformers only one works as you say. One does not adjust at all and remains at 19VAC while another kind of adjusts, but is unstable and also loses its setting when the power goes out.

Mike Reagan is the only one I have heard make a reference in the video that the voltage will remain "as long as the transformer is plugged in", but it seems he is referring to the acc posts being live(unlike the track posts) as long as it's plugged in.

As you know, the buttons can be iffy at times, so be sure they are all pressed firmly. Also, test your outputs with a load, preferably what you are trying to operate, for accurate readings(you will not get anything close to accurate with just a meter due to the circuit design of the CW - and with no load you will get a 17-19 volt reading all the time).

If one of yours really does put out 19 volts with a load, the triac is shorted.

I held all three buttons down and the green light was flashing on each one although I used a volt meter without a load. I didn’t want to take a chance on smashing my trolley again.

One transformer will not adjust at all and remember one of the CW80s stopped working completely about 3 or 4 years ago and that I had to take it apart to do some soldering to get it working again. I don’t remember all the details, but this might be the one I worked on. Anyway I’m going to put a paint mark on it so I remember which one it is.

And I don’t have any idea as to why the other will not keep its setting. But my trolley has been running just fine on the only good one and I’ve turned it on and off a number of times. I probably will not need the other Accessory Terminals because everything else I have is DC.
