My wife and I own a store. We had trains in there before, but had to give up the space for something else.  We plan to suspend from the ceiling down at the 6-8 height.  I am thinking about Standard gauge.  I really don’t want to go to G scale and I figure Standard will be fine.  The theme in our business is old time 1900s already so Tinplate is a natural fit.

1. Track, tube, fastrack?  Anything better than the other?
2. What are the min radius curves I can get away with?
3. What engines and rolling stock do I start looking for that would be at least PS2.

I figure I need to go with modern since these will run a lot.

TIA

Here are my answers to your questions... Track - USA track is the best - https://standardgaugetrack.com/.  Radius depends on the equipment you want to run - #10 engine and 500 series cars can run on 42" diameter track (42" is "original" SG track); larger trains are more reliable on at least 72" diameter, and USA track has much wider curves available.  Cars and locos - MTH made a wide variety of items, pretty much whatever you want, most locos came in traditional and contemporary (PS 2 or 3) versions.  The "Tinplate Traditions" items are generally a little less expensive - they're identical to the Lionel Corporation versions, but lack the "Lionel" markings since they were sold prior to the licensing agreement.

However, as a lover of Standard Gauge trains, I suggest either going with prewar pieces - simple to run and repair - or going with a different gauge.  Modern SG trains need frequent attention for lubrication, and keeping the gears greased on locomotives can take a fair amount of disassembly.  In addition, parts for modern trains can be difficult to find.

For an operating display that needs minimal attention, I'd suggest G - it runs reliably with less attention and maintenance.  A second option would be O gauge using Williams locomotives - simple and bulletproof.

USA track gives you more options and is a great track. Buying the verison with more ties even better. Tinplate Traditions is an excellent suggestion but you want the ones with the 3v boards. You will need to grease and oil the locomotive every 1000 miles. The electrics are easier maintain since you don't have to remove a front/rear trucks to get to the gear box. It is difficult to get to American Flyer engines and the Ives 3245 gears since they not are accessable with screws. I have to use spray white lithium grease for these. MTH #10's and 8's and Ives 3236's are easy to maintain.

Thanks @Mallard4468 & @scott.smith that gets me pointed in the right direction

Thinking about this I have a great suggestion. How about a MTH/Lionel Corporation 381E, State set Engine in Blue Comet Colors. It's big, bright, Proto 3, easy access to the gear box. You will need heavy duty shelves.

No mine isn't for sale, however its brother is. My local dealer, The Rail Yard Hobby Shop in Roanoke ordered two when I pre-ordered the one in the picture. He still has the other one new in the box. He will want MSRP but he doesn't mark these up above it like a lot of dealers have. The Rail Yard can be reached at 540-362-1714.
