I went back to DCS 4.2 some time back. I was having issues that was several things going wrong all at once. Anyways, now I'm back in the basement. I haven't run down there much all summer. I did run a couple of new engines and consists of them. So today I was surprised when I couldn't locate my new Dreyfus w/ PS3? The consist of it with 2 conrails is still there. I'm running V4.2 again. I thought it was stable (with lost addresses)?

So did/does 4.3 fix the lost address issues in the remote? Does the new 5 fix it? I went to MTH's site and I don't see the new version 5.x anyways?

Help!

EDIT!

it would help if I had a brain! I located my Dreyfus Hudson as address #31 after not seeing it in the remote. I should have then looked for address #31. It is there!

For some reason, my brain thought it would say "Dreyfus" in the description. It does not so I didn't see what was right there. With so many engines I'm getting lost.

Good post. In one of my MU's a CSX GP38 PS3 member engine with almost daily use lost its function after a run with no shutdown. My other SD70's tried to pull it but struggled so i shut it down. The GP38 was still in the active list but recover engine etc..well nada ,not even watchdog. The next day i brought my test track home>to my tiu>add mth engine and all good.MU now fine...like you joe, what the heck happened? All things considered my 4.2 REV L has been very stable for all my MU's and this was a first time ever in 3 years.

I suspect that when the DCS board has a supercap, which includes PS3 or PS2 with BCRs, that if the loco hasn't been used for awhile,or if the PS2 battery is dead, and the loco is powered up but power is cut in less than a minute, there may be a garbling of data as the loco tries to rewrite data.  This has occurred to me twice.  It took a re-add to get the loco back, and I tried so many things I don't now remember how I did get it back.

This is the only explanation I can conceive of for what happened to me twice.  Both times the track was powered on and for some reason, power was cut very shortly after it had been turned on.

I am running 5.0, but haven't had enough experience with it to answer your question.  Before you ask, I got it Wed evening at York.

I had a couple of locos that would not respond tonight while one grandson was here. SO now I'm doing some troubleshooting. One address of my Dreyfus in #31 is gone. The computer program I got from Mark here, finds it.

Another PS3 engine, that is in address 57 is not responding to the remote saying engine not on track. The computer finds it and runs it without issue.

So after those two alone tonight, I'm wondering if the remote just has the issue. Because the computer can run it, I'm guessing that there's no engine nor TIU issue?

One common thing, is the remote flashed BAT a couple of times. So I did install new batteries near the end of the early session. I'm not sure if that can throw the remote off or if there's any connection to these remote 4.2 software issues?

I do know that every year lately, after not running for the summer very much, I encounter issues. I expect battery issues and have swapped out some and charged others. That does not explain to me the remote issues though. I do use it once in awhile during the summer as new stuff arrives.

Once I get thru the fall season where I'm using my basement system several times a week, the lost address issue seems to subside. I believe this is the first time that has happened since I got a new basement remote.

I hope version 5.x helps with engine adds (with higher #TIUs in super mode), lost addresses, messed up consist lighting, etc.

Sometimes I am jealous of guys who stuck with the old 3.x versions!
