What do you do as part of your maintenance of your locomotives when it says its due? Im just curious what you all do? Steam and diesel. Do you do it yourself or send it out? I usually pull trucks apart and re-grease. I clean shell and check all wiring and in most cases i pull the wire nuts and solder connections and shrink tube connections. I lube all pickups, external gears and top off with smoke fluid.

I would not lube the engine every time "maintenance needed" shows up on the screen.  I find it to be totally useless, because if for some reason the loco doesn't react to a startup command, it pops up, regardless of when the loco was last "maintained" or regardless of its age.  Overlubrication can be bad.

I should have stated that I oil the axles when I do maintenance as needed. I usually don't need to do them often now that I run so many. Each one doesn't get that much rail time anymore. Some, don't hit the rails for months!

I'd rather have extra oil on the axles than ever letting them go dry. A little does last a long time. (Squeaky engines get my attention.) The grease inside the chamber also lubes them. I don't wait for any remote message. I inspect them regularly. Some of my track nails worked loose and have been pulled up by the speaker magnets.

In G scale, much more maintenance is needed when running outside. Outside elements come into play like heat and dirt and bird s......etc.
