This hardly seems the place but I can't find another.

Has anyone used one of the Micro-Mark kits to pull a mould off a tinplate engine, specifically a Hafner / Wyandotte streamlined clockwork engine shell, in order to cast one from plastic?

What would be the issues, especially in weight if I made an engine from plastic and powered it with a Marx 999 motor?

Have not done that specifically.

I presume you mean making a mold and casting a copy in resin?  Doable, but might be a bit of a complicated mold that might take some transient modification of the original.  Would not use Micro-Mark resin for this due to a too rapid cure time - larger molds benefit by having a slower cure time and longer working time.

Nor sure I follow your concern about weight - resin is too light or tooheavy?  You might need to make a somewhat thicker resin body for both strength and for mounting purposes.

Might you be able to provide a picture of your starting point?

Got a shell that's really in great shape but wanted to find a way to lengthen it and make a 4-4-2 out of it.  Maybe I'll look it over again and see if it isn't more practical to modify what I have.

Thanks.
