If I'm going to wear a shirt or whatever, with someone's name on it, it had better come to me at their expense, not mine.  I always get a kick out of all the name brand clothing with their logos emblazoned on.  Then people go out and spend more money because it has the logo.  Doesn't make sense to me.  Not only is the customer paying for the clothing, they're also paying for the marketing of the items.

Exactly. However, when ever I was out on a steam locomotive as part of the crew, i.e. NKP 765, SP 4449, UP 844/3985, I did wear the appropriate shirt/jacket & hat in order to promote sales in the souvenir car/shop.

Stark philosophies such as this really grate on people who enjoy our pop culture, toy trains included.

The only hat I have that is railroad related is one from Steam Town.  Not a railroad but a museum.

Absolutely not

Your favorite baseball or football team

I'm not into sports

Your favorite car,

If I cannot afford a Porsche, why would I buy a hat ?

Hey, I have promoted products via word of mouth and on these forums.  Isn't that enough ?

I'm happy for those who enjoy whatever it is they enjoy.  If they choose to spend their money on tchotchkes, that would be their privilege.  I don't have the luxury of that tree in my yard with the money falling from it.  I merely stated my personal opinion.  Those who agree have made it known.  Those who don't agree are free to make their opinions public also.  I'm an equal opportunity listener.

A guy starts a thread asking about what manufacturer apparel is available in addition to Lionel. Several people respond, telling him that product from MTH, K-Line and Atlas has been issued.

And suddenly out of the blue you offer an opinion that you aren't going to wear apparel to promote someone's product, suggesting it's ridiculous to pay for such apparel.

The problem? No one was asking about the merits of such apparel. The original poster certainly didn't ask what people thought about such apparel. He wanted to know if it was made.

And your comment sounded liked disapproval. You're entitled to your opinion. But expect some push back when you state it without invitation.
