Military Tribute Cars

A guy I went to high school with was on a cutter down in the islands somewhere and told me a story of fighting it out with a drug runner boat, they were shooting up at the Coasties on deck with small arms but were well under the minimum elevation of the cutter's deck gun.

The Coasties turned the drug boat into a colander with .50 caliber MGs when they saw the drug guys uncovering out a WW2-era 20MM Oerlikon gun. Wish I knew where he was today so I could ask for the specifics on where he was at the time. This would have been in the late 80s or early 90s.

Mebbe they'd be better off with a flatcar with a cutter on it 

So far I'm looking at modifying my original idea to a freight consist that might look like this:

Coast Guard cutter on a flatcar

US Army Troop Carrier or Ammunition Boxcar

US Marine Corps Ammunition Boxcar

US Navy Missile Carrier Car, or else a billboard reefer

US Air Force Aviation Fuel car

Indiginous Irregulars Stock Car (many natives from across the globe who have fought alongside the US rode horses, perhaps allowing for an animated car)

That is my thoughts so far. Boxcars would carry vintage posters on the sides, and the Coast Guard cutter (but only if the boxcars were decided upon). Any interest in this idea, as thought out currently?

Nice idea but has been done. 

I merely seek to do my own tribute, and it doesnt surprise me that other manufacterurer have done the same thing.

Go for it I make many custom items that is what the hobby is about. I was just letting you know about these cars in case you did not know.

One of my favorite cars is the LCCA 58509 NS Support the Troupes Box  car. Have several.

I will do them, I am thinking now... Just have to finalize the design and stuff...

Air Force Tank cars are looking at first production, but it all depends on who all would be interested. If I could get confirmation of interest in purchasing from at least 10 people, it will be the first car in a series.

Support the Troupes?  Like the French Foreign Legion or something?

It would be a tribute to those who have fallen serving in the line of duty for our country.

I got that.  I don't get troupes.  That sounds like a carnival act.  Troops sounds more like an army outfit.  Never mind.  I get that too.  Have fun

I moved this thread from the Tinplate Forums to the Traditional Forums, as I have come to realize the only way I could make on my own these cars is through the use of plastics and hand cut dies. Probably belongs over here because of that, no?
