I put that one together for that train show. It was well received by the public. Most of the accessories on that display ended up on my  Nixon Library Holiday layout this past year.

The Camel Back is a custom Marx piece (not mine) and the planes flying around the pylon is by Marx and has military theme litho all around it. It has Skyhawk on the roof and is a clockwork. It is from the 30's.

Marx trains really are lots of fun.  When I was just a little shaver I inherited my Granddad's 666 Marx Engine with its associated freight cars along with a Lionel 249 with its freight cars.  I ran the Lionel a lot more than the Marx even though the 249 was plastic and did not smoke while the 666 was die cast and was, and still is, a prodigious smoker.  I guess I was brainwashed.  Anyway, over time the brainwashing effect continued and I focused primarily on Lionel but a few years back I started to take more notice Of Marx and began to realize what a great product they manufactured.  Sixty to seventy years later the Marx engines I own still run as good as my Lionel post-war stuff despite the fact they were much less expensive than their Lionel counterparts.   This includes Marx's clockwork engines as well.  Great stuff.

Marx's low cost almost whimsical engineering techniques that they utilized on their accessory lines can't help but make people smile when they watch them operate.  My favorite is The Grade Crossing Signal Man whose body is riveted to the metal door as it opens when a train passes by.  Obviously, not as many moving parts as the Lionel Operating Gate man but certainly just as  entertaining and much funnier in my opinion.  I have two of them and get a real kick out of watching them operate.  The lithography on both shacks is still as bright and crisp as when they were first produced sixty five years ago and they both operate perfectly.  I guess over the years I have been completely rehabilitated because I love my Marx stuff just as much as my Lionel.  Louis Marx really was a genius.

Papa,

that's a great layout, It surely created a lot of interest. Its neat to see the old tin plate still run.

As a fellow Marxist. I am glad you enjoy them. Unfortunately, my desktop computer died and as a result I got this crummy laptop that won't transfer videos.

My attempts at a work around don't work.

Part of the fun is sharing the hobby and I just enjoy the heck out the videos posted here.

I have been active though..a lot of new critters have gone through "the shop" .

I finally completed a full restoration of that two story gas station after around two years of hunting down the parts on Ebay. It's unusual in the it is made out of Masonite with a laminated printed facade. The cars with the set have fuel tanks you fill up from the pumps with water..also has a car wash. I wanted to do a demonstration on video of how this looks and works for others to enjoy.

Another successful restoration was a Craigstan automated barrel loader train set which took quite a bit of fiddling around to get it to behave. The lithography is wonderful on this battery operated set. Wanted to demonstrate that too on tape.

My latest quest is to find more Marx freight cars with those D trucks..They look great behind that Nickle Plate engine..size matches all around. I could watch that go around all day long.

Oh well...
