I currently halve a 15 amp circuit in my train room.  Layout going in as I type.  I will be powering a Z-4000 and a ZW-L.  MTH tells me that 10 amps is their maximum.  I am trying to find out the same question for the ZW-L.  I am having a 20 amp additional line into the room.  I want to make sure I have enough.  Will run 3-4 trains and accessories operating and lit on the layout.  Thanks in advance.

The ZW-L is a bigger power supply (620W out), but probably more efficient since it uses chopped-wave (“shark fin”) regulation. So, my guess is that peak demand is in the range 8 to 12 A from the outlet. Perhaps someone here on the forum can measure it.

Bottom line is that you will be fine with the extra 20A service you are adding.

Just looked at the ZW-L manual on line and it doesn't list the transformer's specifications.  Maybe its on the transformer.

Using gunrunnerjohn's estimate of 85% efficient, that would mean the ZW-L uses 730 watts maximum when it is outputting 620 watts/18VAC.  So;

Amps = Watts/Volts = 730/110 = 6.6 amps maximum the ZW-L will use.  Actually that is more than I thought.  Hopefully someone checks my calculations.

I cannot thank all of you enough. I’m just getting ready to build the layout and the first thought that came into my mind was , do I have enough power to supply two transformers?   I googled it, Lionel owners manual and all sorts of searches and could not find the simple answer.   Hopefully the next person that is in the same predicament can Google it search it and find the answer for the question thank you again

Thanks for the input.  I will have a 20 amp run for the 2 big transformers and other small transformers.  Needless to say, both outlets will be protected by power strips.    The existing 15 amp service will be used for ancillary items.  Who knows if there is a hallway or bedroom on the 15 amp.  I think in this manner I should be covered with the isolated 20 amp service on the transformers only.
