Shouldn't the "engineer" be wearing some kind of "rad suit" and not have exposed skin?

Great looking project, should be lots of fun. Instead of just yellow lights on the module roof, I would suggest yellow and magenta to align with the NRC code of federal regulations for radiation warnings.

I can send you a set of decals.  You don't need to build this particular car, that lettering was on plain looking L&N and ACL baggage cars as well

Very cleaver and a great job.  That mod should get lots of attention and praise.  I do not think there is another one like it.

As we had on subs, the bulkhead between the cab and reactor is a bio wall, a tank filled with feed water to the steam generators, the tank is the full height and width of the engine, about 2ft in depth toward the reactor. There is also a wall of lead and other materials to block any high levels of radiation.

Oh, take it from me (5years in the navy on subs and 15years refueling commercial reactors), the anti contamination suit is just for keeping contamination off of you (radioactive partials) the real danger is from the radiation emitted from the reactor, pumps, piping and steam generators in the form alpha, beta, gamma and neutron radiation. Alpha and beta are partials, gamma and neutron are waves. Alpha can be stopped by a sheet of paper, beta plastic, gamma lead concrete, water etc, neutron same as gamma.

So the suit doent do much, its like keeping you clean, but your still going to get dose from gamma and neutron (if reactor is critical)

Not a problem at all.  You buy 4-lead 3-color LED's and just light the appropriate chips and you have your magenta.  The LED and the three resistors to balance the color would be about a buck.

Great piece of imagineering - beautiful job! Would a Magnox reactor version have the exhaust going up the stack, Windscale style?

So I finally got her done. Its a Vision Pilot Challanger thats had the ash pan leds replaced with blue, to simulate cherinkov radiation. Signs were added, the dyamo will be the steam generator blowdown, the injector portion was sealed off. The tender coal load was removed and a "telemetry" module was added, I may install a pair of blinking yellow leds on the module roof to indicate when the reactor is critical. The chessie car is the reactor chemistry lab. I may make the other 6 cars into a Rickover Express, each one with a different submarine name, those i served on and important nuclear subs in history.

What a masterpiece of re-engineering that locomotive.  Very well executed.  Looks fantastic! 

What are you going to do for the sound?  Would there "technically" be any real changes that should be considered?

I love the blue lights and signage.

If you ever need to create a custom colored LED you can dip a white led in "Great Glass", sold at many craft stores, a glass tint for simulating stained glass. It comes in a complete spectrum and can be mixed to create most any color you need.  One thing to note if you are going to a cold color such as blue or green start with a cold white led.  If going to red, magenta, orange, use a warm toned led.   Another option is to use Roscolux gel filters which come in a complete spectrum also.   https://us.rosco.com/en/products/catalog/roscolux

Ha, no its a PWR. Trying to keep it within the tech available in the 50-60's.

Sound is staying the same, yea no real reason to change. I use the blowdown sounds with the converted blowdown where the dynamo was.
