It's fitting that we take a moment out of our Memorial Day weekend to salute and express our gratitude to all the Veterans past and present who made it possible. I especially want to remember those who gave the ultimate for our freedom... those who gave their lives. Let us never forgets the service of all Veterans. This is truly their weekend! God Bless America!

GOD BLESS OUR VETS & ALL ACTIVE DUTY MILITARY SERVICES !
Same here! Lets hope they get this VA thing fixed! Our Military deserve only the best care that we can give them!
Something we should all remember on this Memorial Day. Canadian Lt. Col John McCrae's poem written on the battlefield during World War I. "The War to end all Wars".
In Flanders Fields
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses row on row
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks still bravely singing,fly
scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the dead. Short days ago
we lived,felt dawn,saw sunset glow,
loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow,
In Flanders fields.

Memorial Day always gets me down, feeling sad. My Dad served in the navy during ww2 as did some of my uncles. I served during the tail end of Vietnam. Most of them are gone now but not forgotten. God bless our armed forces men and women.
All right all right. This is the second thread that's been started about Memorial Day on this O gauge model train forum.
I think it's important to remember that Memorial Day (the last Monday in May) is for honoring our military personnel who died serving on active duty. And yes, "Happy Memorial Day" is not appropriate for this particular holiday.
Veteran's Day (November 11th) is for honoring all military veterans and active duty personnel.
My father, a WW II veteran who is still with us, explained this to me when I was in high school.
Thank you,

Great thread. Let us not forget the freedom we all enjoy and the cost in lives.

Easy to forget all that "freedom" we have, here in the abundance of the USA. Always thankful that we've always had good people willing to pay for it!
Decoration Day, that's what my parents called it.
Decoration Day is the former name of the Memorial Day holiday in the United States. Memorial Day began as Decoration Day in the immediate aftermath of the American Civil War. It was a tradition initiated by General John A Logan, leader of an organization for Northern Civil War veterans.
Starting there, it eventually then encompassed all Civil War Vets North and South, and then war after war Americans that lost their lives were honored.
Most if not all of us have had members of our families, friends, and those that have passed through our lives, serve or make the supreme sacrifice dedicated to the ideals of the founding of our country.
I served, but am always humbled and in awe by the many that have had to give their all.
God Bless them.
Anyone watch the PBS National Memorial Day Concert? Some real heroes and some incredible stories.
