Menards is finally coming to Kansas City, or more precisely a number of KC suburbs. There was supposed to be one going up very near me a few years ago but then everything ceased. I read today that things are moving on it again. I'm anxious to get a look at some of their offerings. They have some weathered rolling stock that I'm very interested in. I wish they'd do a weathered coal hopper set for the Kansas City Southern now that they're entering the home office town. The weathered UP boxcar set is one I'm really curious to see in person.

Which KC suburbs?
Now, they need to come to the city KC beat: Houston!

Independence and Belton on the Missouri side and Olathe on the Kansas side.
I hope they expand all the way to Washington DC / Northern Virginia area.
While I'm happy to see Menards expanding into more markets, it is worth noting that the brick and mortar stores currently only stock the train stuff in the holiday season, so it will probably be next fall before you can see any of the stuff in a store.
As far as everything else goes, I think you'll be impressed by Menards if you've been shopping at the other 'big box' national chains.

I think I found the Olathe site, 135th between Pflumm & Blackbob. I'm about half way between the one in Lawrence & the one coming to Olathe. Looks like Olathe will be a little closer, but it may be faster to get to the Lawrence location? I will have to check one (or both) of them out, never been in one.
I find Menards to offer the same stuff as anyone else as far as the quality of products is concerned. You tend to get what you pay for: trains, bathtubs, new pants, or a sheet of plywood. 'Cost is what you pay, Value is what you get.' When it comes to the train products, I feel I am getting about $30 worth of train car for $20. When it comes to everything else in the store, I haven't noticed any difference in quality with the same items sold by other similar stores, and I have noticed better customer service, and a larger selection of products. As stated in other posts on the topic, I tend not to be a frequent shopper of Menards, as I have a competing big box store about half a mile from my house, but I find Menards offers a better store with about the same prices on products, sometimes better, sometimes not.

Menards could do well in Texas

I live on the north side of Kansas City so I'll probably continue to just go to the St. Joseph store. Glad to see them moving into Kansas City itself, and hope the northland will get a store soon. Given the option, I prefer Menard's largely on their customer service, prices, and selection. I have got some incredible deals there in the last 6 months, and they have beat their competitors by quite a bit on some products.
I've driven by the one in Sedalia many times on trips between KC and St. Louis on US 50 and on visits to the Missouri State Fair. I was even planning to stop by on my next trip to/through Sedalia just to look at their O Gauge offerings. I was quite pleasantly surprised to discover they'll soon be in my backyard and passing by them almost daily.
Nice stores, lot's of stock but be aware that most of their discount coupons are for future in store purchases.
They need to come to South Eastern PA/Northern Delaware Area.....
They bought a building site near us about a year ago but I have not seen any construction started yet. I'm hoping I'll see it underway when we return from Florida in the spring.

Unless things have changed recently, I'd have to say that your best selection is through shopping on-line, as the Menards stores themselves don't really carry the full line of trains. Anybody got a local store that has a larger train selection?
No in fact our newest local store didn't even have all of the online items and what they did have was not all in one location. Guess the store manager was not a toy train guy. Oh and the bldgs were on the top shelf, couldn't even reach them. I am not knocking Menards, just saying having a local store will not mean they have our toys.
Wish Menard's was in the south. We used them exclusively when we lived in Buffalo Grove IL for about 3 years. Great place to shop. We have, in order of preference: Lowes (40 miles from us), Home Depot (local), and McCoy's (local regional firm based in Texas I think.)
