I have THE ROCKET diner by Menards on my layout, but haven't used the smoke unit. With this report, perhaps I won't ever use it. I bought it because I'm a Rock Island hobbyist/collector.

Instead of blowing smoke with this accessory, I decided to add sound effects to it with an external sound chip provided by IT Products according to my text -- a diesel horn and a welcoming announcement by the diner "host."

I don't run trains every day. sometimes I may go several weeks without the trains being moved. When I do run trains it may be for only a few minutes. The diner may have run dry a few times since the run time is low. The other day someone wanted to see the train room so I fired things up and added water, only distilled water, and there was no smoke.

I am not familiar with I T Products, can you send a link?

Jeff:

Ooops - the company name is ITT Products. They made two customized sound chips for me. I provided the digital audio files and they followed thru on the project.  Both sound effects are now installed on my layout:

1)  An excerpt of brass band music for my Lionel Bandstand.

2)  A diesel horn and welcoming announcement by the host of Menard's ROCKET DINER.

Google the words:   ITT Products to find their website, e-mail address, and phone number. I highly recommend the company for top quality at a reasonable price -- with prompt follow-through.
