Menards Freebie Substitutions?

Just curious if anyone else had experienced this.

I was tempted into buying another railcar by the last special, a freebie lighted CNW stake truck. When I went into the store to pickup my order the railcar was missing (not worried, they say they're on it) and instead of CNW there was an equivalent Santa Fe truck. Disappointing but I assumed they substituted because they were out of CNW and my son likes ATSF and he was with me so I took it home.

I'm curious to hear from you all as to if (or how often) you've experienced this. I don't like to gripe over freebies but I usually only buy new O27 stuff at when there's a Menards freebie I really like so it is pertinent to my shopping.

In the last week I thought I saw a post that advised consumers that there could be a situation where a store may run out of the CNW trucks and they would be substituting the SF truck. Hope I got this right

I was about to pull the Trigger on the REA free truck and a building front, I went to pay for it and they put in a CNW truck instead , bottom line no sale. I did not care for that switch at all. rolleyes

There usually is a post with their current freebie ad that states if the offered freebie runs out, they will substitute a different road name of a similar item.

They ran out of the REA trucks some time ago, they substitute a different road name regularly for the free-bees.

Good to know and something I'll keep in mind for the future. No biggie I guess as my son really likes SF.

Picked up the missing C&IM boxcar from my order last night and it looks great.
