The bodies are totally different, zoom in and you can see.

I'll be gone for the weekend, but I will when I get back
Are those M1A1 Abrams tanks, or are they based upon another model?
About what scale are they....I know Menard's say they are NOT 1/48......
are they the same ones/size that they sold on flatcars?

Well, I did some homework and figure they are sized between 1/64 & 1/87, using a basic M1 ( not sure on exact model ) at 26ft. It was either that today or work on of all things, Taxes.
Did I mention this was all for $6 !! And includes a brake wheel !

Nice work for $6!
They do look like they are supposed to be M1A1s. The real thing is 26' long, 12' wide, and 8' high. I have a 1:48 scale M1A1 and on an Atlas or Weaver flat car the tracks overhang the sides of the car just a bit.

Looks great. I bought 10 tanks to do the same thing. Where did you buy the break wheel? I need 5 of them. I'm also adding Bull Rings to the front & rear of the tanks to attach tie-down chains & binders similar to pic below. Thanks for posting the pic. BTW notice the 6 wheel trucks on the flat car? Another project for another day.

Speaking of meetings, you missed one this weekend, Mr. I have to go to a train show Bob!! LOL
You should wait till he goes to the next one on the coast, that way you can help him carry back some Menards stuff! I know there are ports on both east and west side! LOL
Well, the chassis looks like it's of an M1 Abrams (could be an A1 or A2 variant) but the turret is definately not that of an Abrams. Those look like turrets of a Leopard tank
Additionally, the turret is not sized proportionately to the hull, not even close (based on these pics anyways).
I spent 7 years scouting for M1's and I'm not sure what this thing is. But they definately should not call it an M1 Abrams.....
Just sayin.

I think if we accept 1/64 scale tanks on semi scale flat cars running on 3 rail track.....Turret accuracy is the least of our worries!!! The tanks kinda look cool with the big turret.....and by mix and match you avoid licensing possibility!

Where did you scout?
Anyway .... tanks on trains are definitely cool.

...and all you had to do was to visit Aberdeen Proving Grounds in Maryland. Here's the proto type.

1/48 Abrams exist about $17 die cast with sounds Search e-bay. I am using 14'' flat to model and yes the real thing is 12' wide and overhangs. I am not overly concerned with scale but these are too small for me. Another version ( 25.00 ) has complete radio control. Now you can drive your tank on the flat. Also has infrared gun allowing you to disable opposing Tanks. Another version is the Russian T-90. Fun I will post when I finish model.

I re-purposed these flats from a prior Menards promotion.
And now I have a flock of Military buses to convert into Sprinters.

Korea (4/7 CAV), Bosnia and a bunch of other random places .. I wish they made some Bradley's to go with the "M1's".
And as everyone pointed out, the tanks are only $2.99 so yeah, kinda hard to complain about that.

And for those modeling 1940's - 1950's, Tamiya's nice 1/48 Sherman and Pershing kits are often on eBay.

I was a scout for the 2 Armored Cav in Germany, during the transition from the M60 to the M1.

Nice. I was with 2nd Armored Cav when they were in Ft. Polk (late 90's).
