MicroLux LaserKnife 2525 Laser Cutter Engraving Machine

It does seem a bit high, but often with these things you are paying for step size (how fine it can space cuts), speed, accuracy and tolerance, and cutting beam width, which might (or might not be) narrower on a 40W compared to 50W beam.

Frankly, I would feel more comfortable buying from MicroMark than a third party on e-bay, but I'm not sure this much price difference is justified.  Have to study the details to know if theirs is exceptional in any way.

So Alanrail, Which others have you seen that you are interested in and can compare to MicroMarks?

I found the 9.8" x 9.8" cutting/engraving area too small for O gauge. Also, you need to buy the full Corel Draw program, $499 for the current version.  

If the cutting area was closer to 14" x 10" it might be more useful.  I am also looking at a 3D scanner, $3000 for close to a professional one and another $1000 to $3000 for software. Plus the time required to learn the software.  This is almost more important/useful than buying a 3D printer. If we ever get my wife's health straitened up, I may do it.

I addition to electric power are there any other consumables involved in laser cutting?

Its a CO2 gas laser so I guess that could leak. Also the honeycomb platen can wear and there are fuses.
