2012 marks the 20th year in a row that Steamtown National Historic Site has been running on the "Pocono Main." While the schedules and other parts of the operation may have changed, it is also comforting that you can still take a quick journey to Moscow, PA from Scranton.

And the ride back to Scranton.  Uneventful, and yet spectacular for families looking for a fun afternoon together.

The thread is now yours to share, join, and add to with your photos of trains on the real railroads.  Enjoy, and have a great Labor Day weekend.  Remember , it was the Great Pullman strike which led President Cleveland to create a day for all workers in 1894. You just can't escape the impact of the railroad.

Also, thank you to Gilbert-Ives for "liking" several Midweek Photo threads of the past year.  Not only did I appreciate the acknowledgement, but it was nice seeing all of the various photos from the other contributors that I had forgotten.  Enjoy!

Some nice steam photos again this week!  I have some news.  When I moved to South Dakota 20 years ago, there was a steam operation less than an hour north of me. The boiler on it ran out of time, and the 0-6-0 sat in a a roundhouse for many years.  It is now fixed and doing trials!  I'll post shots when it makes its first run.  Meanwhile, I talked my way into the roundhouse and got a shot of it.  Not the standard railfan type shot, but something a little more interesting.  Second photo is of a chapel car.  This one was owned by the Baptist Convention between 1910 to 1942 (roughly.)  The railroads would haul it around to frontier towns for free.  There was a pastor that lived in the car.  Here's a shot I took before they held an actual service in it last Sunday.  Folks, this is a rare car and has a very interesting story behind it all!  It eventually filled to capacity before the service started.  Next shot is an engineer running a switcher for the PVRR.  First three shots made with the 1951 Rolleiflex.  My last shot was made with the 1937 Bessa RF and Portra 400.  I couldn't pass up the nice flowers!  BNSF manifest train stopped at a switch at Ihlen, MN.  With any luck, I'll have more steam shots from a MN location next week!
