Hi, I am Forest Zeiders of the Mifflin County Model RR Club. We are in Lewistown, Pa at : 3 West Monument Square, Lewistown, Pa. Lewistown was once the Western Terminus for the Pennsylvania RR.  I am a little late with this posting but late is better than never. The season has arrived for our annual Christmas Open House. We have a beautiful Ho Scale layout modeled after the Norfolk Southern Pittsburg Line running from Harrisburg, Pa to Altoona, Pa. Scenes include a scale model of the Historical Lewistown station. There is a small narrow gauge section representing the East Broad Top RR. Along with the HO Section of the layout we have a separate O Gauge layout. I will be posting photos and a few video scenes over the course of the the month.

Our open house dates run as follows. Thurs. Dec. 5th 5pm - 9pm. This was last evening and we had a great turnout. I want to thank everyone that showed up and especially thank all who donated to our cause. I will get back to this later as the Donations are what keep us up and running.

The rest of the monthly schedule is as follows: Fri. Dec. 6, 5pm - 9pm, Sat. Dec. 7, 12pm - 4pm, Sun. Dec. 8, 1pm - 4pm, Sat. Dec. 14, 1pm - 4pm, Sun. Dec. 15, 1pm - 4pm, Sat. Dec. 21, 1pm - 5pm. After Christmas we have the annual Thomas and Friends trains on display on Sat. Dec. 28, 1pm - 4pm, and Sun. Dec. 29, 1pm - 4pm. On the First Friday of every month we are open to the public from 5pm - approx. 9pm.

If you have a large group or Model Train Club you can contact me via E-mail to arrange for a private showing.

This is the good news, now to the sad part. At one time we had over 30 members. Over the last several years we have had quite a few members pass away and some who have had to move away from our area. We have enough funds to stay open for maybe one more year. We are currently down to about 10 members and the dues we pay only cover a small portion of the $4740.00 that we have to pay for rent and another $500.00 for insurance. After seeing the photos and video clips if can find it in your heart to make a contribution, you can contact me or send your much appreciated donation to: Mifflin County Model RR Club, 3 Monument Square, Lewistown, Pa. 17044. Thank You, Forest Zeiders. Now onto the photos.

IMG_0626Here is a scene of the Rockville Bridge. Pardon the mess in the middle of the Susquahanna River.  We were in the process of getting ready for the show and some items found there way into the middle of the river. The bridge was made with each arch being poured into a plaster mold and then pieced together to form the bridge.

Here is another photo depicting the East Broad Top. This is a fantasy scene with the narrow gauge up on the side of the mountain. IMG_0653

This train was donated by our late member Ed Forsythe. It is made from the Tyco flat cars that came in about every set at one time. Upgraded with metal wheels and axles and KD Couplers. the weathering really sets the train off from just being a cheap Tyco car.

Here is a scene from the O gauge side of the club. I will have to take some more photos tonight. Most of the photos I had are one the hard drive of my computer that burned up last Thursday. Member Jeff Jacobs made a Disney train. Some of these characters cost up to $20.00 apiece. IMG_0611

At 10:00 this morning we had the Mifflin County School Elementary Kids visit. Seeing the faces of the children as they walked through the O-gauge room is a very special experience. It makes all the hard work of keeping the club up and running all that much more special. There must have been a couple hundred kids come through. I believe some of the teachers enjoyed it as much or more than some of the kids. Unfortunately I cannot post the photos that I took of the children due to the complexity of the legal issues with getting a release and permission from all of the parents.

Three members of the club posed for this shot. Bill Litzenger on the left, Dave Taylor in the middle, And Dick Stimely on the right. Dick has been active for 50 years. He was just recently awarded for his 50th years of public support by the Pennsylvania State Legislature. Bill is one of our newer members and works with the HO side of the club. Dave works on the O gauge portion and is responsible for a lot of the O gauge scenery. I apologize if I spelled Bill's name wrong. IMG_0738
