I agree, they are very fast in returning emails in my experience too.

If you hold that button in, the sign will work for that short period of time .  When you let go, the billboard is not using the battery life.  Sort of a preview for a guest.

Walt, is there an On/Off switch? I've had items like this where as OGRE Modeling says in the "OFF" position the push button becomes a momentary "ON" override while you depress it.

On mine it does change the "chase pattern," but I think it's all dependent on the particular sign you have. I have a desk top base in my den with the classic Lionel Trains sign and pushing the button gives you 4-5 different looks as the lights move, reverse, flash, etc.

BobbyD: yes it has an on/off switch on the back.

Johnstrains: I guess that's what Chris meant when he said it was for 'other applications'.  I told him which sign I bought so it seems he responded back relative to that particular sign
