i'm going to be starting my layout soon and will be using 84" radius for my maximum radius. i have several prr Q2's, T1's, S1 and J's and several passenger trains all scale length. i know they can be made to run on smaller radius but i like the way they look on a larger radius, my personal like. i admire the guys who can limit themselves to smaller locomotives but like the engines in my hot rods bigger is always better.
If you have easements at each end of the curve that takes some of the grief out of sharper curves.
My 351 ford ran 11 .8 at the drags and I was happy that bigger did not always mean better.
