I took down majority of track to redo curves for Hiawatha.

Got one line back up,  working on turnout placement for reversing loop/ yard

But a kidney stone got in my way

Set MOW on it. But its a 5mm boulder and its not cooperating

Major drilling. Built a pipe (stent) for access to aid in removal

But location has only room for narrow gauge.  So water blasting may be done from the other side

There is major hassle dealing with the overflow

So I am sitting on the siding

Watching daylight burn up my time

Listening to Christmas music

And losing revenue on my line

And management is whining

Cant handle the loss

The crew is knee deep in the slurry

And Im the one paying the cost

Keeping engines stoked maintain that head of steam

When the line reopens that`ll be the time

I can get management of my back

And get on down the line

Until that happens Im enjoying some special blend of joe

It makes me see double and colors move around

Why I drink it in my arm I`ll never know

But I will pop positive if the wheels hit the ground

So I will be running slow for a day or three

Better run me on the daily milk

Ive got the seniority

So for now thats the trick

Because my daily logs

Have a meter all their own

And they'll be sending out the dogs

Because of a 5mm kidney stone

Apologies to all.  But I'm bored out my gourd

Well, as one who has had seven stones in the past and is now carrying one around in my right kidney, you have my attention and sympathy.  Mine is small, and after ultrasound, x-rays, and renal scan, my urologist has pronounced me fit in terms of all functions so we're just going to leave things alone for now.  Back to playing with trains a bit and preparing for Christmas.

As the old saying goes: This, too, shall pass.

Good luck   Nothing a little laser work, followed by a catheter and stent won't cure (do a search on the forum for kidney stones and you'll see Allan and myself have...been there, done that).

My urologist sez...drink plenty of fluid, doesn't matter what, just drink it.

He said more southerns get kidney stones than the rest of the country because during the summer it's hot and we lose fluid from being outside in it, or inside in the AC where the humidity is low, and during the winter because it's dry inside with the heaters going (but this would apply to just about all the country).  He also said they did a study and concluded that more submariners get kidney stones than the rest of the navy, because of the low humidity on the subs.

My biggest one was the size of a marble and would not come out, just lodged inside.  After 3 tries using Lithotripsy (sound waves) he went in with a laser to bust it up.  All this happened over the course of a whole summer, shoulda got the laser to begin with.

Whatever, it will definitely put a "cramp" on your train running

Now having back side pain again, like I had when I went to ER six weeks ago...

Back on the morphine

Possible stent issues

Due to very small eurta only could get a 3mm stent.  But I have a 5mm stone

See a problem anyone?

So there seems to be a knife in my future and LOOKS like Im going under it

Not around or over as I had hoped

God is omnipotent, but seems to have dropped the ball on this design model....

I had a stone a few years ago and it stayed in for 2.5 painful months. I ended up in the emergency room 4 times. The CT scan said it was 3x5 milimeters. My doctor said it was too big to pass, the urologist said wait, it will pass. One morning it did just that , without pain. Funny thing is, it passed the day BEFORE I was scheduled to have the surgery to remove it!

Rob

I can understand your pain all too well.  Over the past 10 years I have had at least 10 or more  kidney stones that I have passed...actually I lost the total count.  I had out patient surgery a few years ago to remove one of those which was 6mm.  This year I had 5 stones in my left kidney.  The biggest one being 7mm which I luckily passed without having surgery again.  However, it took about 7 months until all of them passed.  I hope you feel better soon so you can fully enjoy running trains!

Been home since monday afternoon...pain pills are a joke, miss that morphine

Have urinated about 20 times in 30 hours.

Hurts side and groin. Good news  I can now sing soprano

Have had about 2hours in train room...

Laying gargraves track...getting curves to allow 80 foot passenger cars and 4-6-4 Hiawatha to roll witout derailment...

Drink more water, . Hope to get stone to pass. Creates more pain...catch 22

Got to go,  time to scream......

Wow!!  I did not know kidney stones were that common, although my brother had them once, too.  I had mine, and my doctor said that he had a woman patient who'd

had a heart attack, been through childbirth, and had a kidney stone, and she said

the kidney stone was the worst.  I also didn't know they were that debilitating...

luckily mine broke up and passed, after they figured out what the problem was.  I

alientated some people in that office, for man~ana ain't going to get it...you want

relief NOW!  They do prescribe drinking enough to keep you afloat in the moat.

When I had the large, marble-sized stone, I went to the ER.  It hurt so bad I had to go into the bathroom to throw up while waiting to be seen.

I heard them calling my name, but couldn't get up off the floor.  The receptionist came to the door and said "Mr. Delbridge, can't you hear us calling your name?".  I said, "Can't you hear me throwing up?"

Yeah, I've had broken bones that didn't feel that bad.

Sorry for your pain. I did enjoy your humor though....well, I just it was supposed to be humor. Could have been the drugs talking. Here's one for you.

A man and a woman, who had never met before, found themselves assigned to the same sleeping room on a transcontinental train.  Although initially embarrassed and uneasy over sharing a room, the two are tired and fall asleep quickly -- he in the upper bunk and she in the lower.  At 2:00 a.m., he leans over and gently wakes the woman, saying, "Ma'am, I'm sorry to bother you, but would you be willing to reach into the closet to get me a second blanket?  I'm awfully cold."  "I have a better idea," she replies. "Just for tonight, let's pretend that we're married."  "Wow!  That's a great idea!!" he exclaims.  "Good," she replies.  "Get your own **** blanket."

Nothing got me well faster when I had a heart valve replaced than the drive to return to the train room and get to work!

That and being able to get up on the Harley again!

Hope all the best to you, and the rest of us "older generation" ... we seem to live in a state of moderate discomfort to pain as we age ... it's paying for all the carelessness of my youth ... if I could remember back that far ...

Yes the drugs aided in my humor...wish they aided in my pain. Pain pills add to constipation,  and thats a whole nother scream

Im to young to be this old

Im now taking two pain pills to get relief and I get about a half hour where the constant pain subsides to tolerable. But still scream when I urinate. A lot of agony for 4 to 6 ounces....

If the cure dont kill me I may live forever

Let me tell you about my neighbor Bob.  He is the happiest guy I know.  I asked him why he was always so happy,he said its because he gets sex every night. I asked how did he accomplish that, he said everynight he gets an erection and knocks on the bed post with it..works evety time.  So I tryed it ..my wife awoke and said Bob is that you?

I feel for you man.

Never had Kidney Stones but had a gall bladder full of stones.

Nothing else ever hurt that much. Many repeats before I went to the Hosp after Retiring from the service. 1st time in they diagnose it and I got it taken out.

Military never did figure it out in about 10 years of occasional attacks.

Once I ended up med evac'd out of Saudi Arabia (Desert Storm) for an attack, then the Army Hosp. in Germany decided I just had an ulcer and sent me back with a bag full of liquid chalk... It wasn't much help.

Morphine, Ya, that's the good stuff but beware of addiction.

Ive been down the self medicating road.  It is my opinion from extensive study that all forms of chemical use from alcohol to crack to heroin is a form of ESCAPSIM.

The person feels a need to get AWAY.  Because there is something they seek to avoid.

The ROOT CAUSE.

Identify that and you will know why they seek to escape.

Some forms of escaping are OK  like a few drinks at a bar or a party...as long as in moderation

In my case I did not care if I lived another day...and wanted to end my life. But did not have the stones to do it myself.  ( stones I crack me up)

But that ended about 27 years ago when I met my soon to be wife.

She gave me a purpose,  fulfilled my life,  made me want to be a better person

I have beaten all my destructive addictions.  Because I am a strong willed person

I can do anything I want except win the lottery and pass these kidney stones

But I keep trying

I would rather spend my money on trains than drugs

And thank you for your service.

FREEDOM HAS A PRICE AND THE COST IS PAID EVERYDAY WHEN WE ALLOW OTHERS THEIR FREEDOM.

Just got two main loops back up and moving trains.  I had to eliminate 31R turn on mainline

So now I will use 31 R turnouts on yard and sidings.

I plan to build a yard that allows for more "fiddling"  and does not hinder the main.

Of course it increases the size of the table that I will have to duck under. But in life you have to compromise.

Pretty happy with the progress considering the time wasted on trips to what my kids now call "Dads screaming room"

Video to be posted soon, . Of trains. Not screaming
