Was trying to locate the worth of a set of 2007 LCCA passenger cars in the 2432 to 2438 series whose car numbers were identical to the post war numbers.  When Lionel numbered them identically across eras, is there an easy way to figure out what the real modern number is, like add a 6- ,  8, or some other number to the front of the 4 digit ID to make it the big number on the modern era boxes?

I find their numbering to be bizarre. I just bought a new Santa Fe F3 Warbonnet.  The board number is the same, and the big number on the box flap is the same. I don’t have it handy but I believe that on the box in small print is a unique number beginning with 6- .

The newish Santa Fe passenger cars all show the 6- number on the flaps. The old 4 digit car number is in the name of the car though, which is on the flap too, as well as the number on the side plate.

There is not a standard anymore.  For the example above, the items are an offshoot of the PWC/CC series Lionel did of reissueing the classic items in modern form.

Also, the hobby in general has changed as many scale buyers wanted more protypical numbering on the cars.  Plus you now have 6 pack sets of hoppers or boxcars with all diffrent numbers.

So to research something like the above, you need to use a search website and search by everying to you know.  For example, if you search  "LCCA 2438" you get what you need to start.

Also, search this forum and you will find many diccussions about this topic.

Thanks for the input on this.  As for this statement from Edmund, "Also, search this forum and you will find many discussions about this topic."  I have found the algorithm that dissects the question you put in the Search Bar usually misses the mark picking out the subject line of the answer you seek.  Plus, when it hits, you end up with 4000 answers.  Maybe the archive should be purged now and then.

Here are the actual component numbers for the two LCCA Burlington sets. All are 6- numbers. Before Lionel recently redesigned (more like ruined) their support website, you could find some of the set component info on it.

Thanks for the numbers Ed and Bill.  I did find 52468 and 52469 in a 2009 production run and suggested price in excellent condition was 40 each, but nothing on the 52462 or the set number.  Not sure about the fellow selling the 4 car China set for 300,  the guy with 5 cars of this set at its current price would be wonderful.  But, with 4 days to go, I'm sure it will go out of my range.
