Seeking assistance in locating a suitable acrylic gold paint to repaint two Williams F Units in the Purdue Black & Gold color combination. Paint should be able to be brush applied or applied using an air brush. The AA F Units to be stripped and painted black them masked for the gold center band paint application.

Does Testors Metallic Gold come close?
I don't use an airbrush, so don't know if this will work, but I've done this for doing small touch-ups... Have you considered going to a paint store (or paint dept. at a home center) and getting a sample-sized jar of a color match? The sample jars usually cost less than $5 and contain plenty of paint for several engines or cars.
I'll add this to the above because apart from being a Purdue fan, I have some experience of painting gold colors on small plastic and metal detail parts. Doing a whole body shell is a different matter although I have applied gold as well as "chrome" finishes to ABS and styrene sheets.
If you want a highly reflective finish, ALCLAD (the people who make model aircraft paints) does more than one gold lacquer as well as brass, but it is very finicky to apply - airbrush only and requires a perfect undercoat. Tru-Color, who do many acrylic railroad paints, might be a better bet and produce a couple of versions of gold and brass, I think including one that is said to be brushable. There is another product called TruColor that is an alcohol-based substance, more like an ink than paint but very realistic. Its drawback is durability as it is easily damaged by handling and a clear coat will actually dull the finish.
I would not suggest brush painting an engine model with any type of paint, but certainly not craft paint. Look in the model section for automobiles and check out the paint lines specifically for them. There must be gold spray cans that will work.
