More wishing

Cool video, so they are still out there, but the question is for how long?

I just want to run some on my layout

 I have some HO. 

But now I’m seeking O  

They are out there, if you can find them. They've been out of production for around five years. I have a decent length train, but I'm keeping them. They were made by Bowser and Weaver.

The things that make this hobby difficult are so annoyingly irreparable. 

Im not used to being denied simple pleasures, because it rarely happens. 

So, I’m going to look into what would it take to build O scale cars. 

OK. 

All I need is $10 from every O scale Railroader to get this project into production-

once we reach $250,000- we can contract the tooling, get the plastics manufacturer under contract and hire the employees to bag the product. 

Made in America 

No boxes

No road names 

Buyer assembly and decoration required 

 Investors get  an option-

A percentage return on their investment or 

an option to buy one of the merchandise at cost. 

And, obviously, the pride of being involved. 

This is a poor joke unless of course it actually occurs-then it’s exactly what I planned😁

I think for your purposes, you'd be much better served by watching eBay and train shows, to get a set of existing ones. Why don't you start right here on the forum and post a WTB and see if anyone has any they want to sell. You might be surprised.

Not so sure about money maker. It takes a lot of sales to offset tooling and production costs. Remember, there is tooling out there for these. If there was really a lot of demand they would be in a catalog.

Why don't you call Atlas and ask if they are in possession of the tooling. That would be the first rock I would look under. The second rock would be Lionel, as it was those two who got Weaver's stuff.

Wishing...l just, for self torture, went into "O scale brass" category on auction site recently, and almost EVERY stinkin' prototype l want in three rail is on the there in two rail!  The Little River 2-4-4-2, two truck Heislers, Mack railbuses, Brill gas electric, ...don't remember a McKeen car,  C&O Mikado, or GW #90.

To each his own on this wishing stuff. I'm more of a realist when it comes to trains. I let the manufacturers do what they want, sans request or complaint. I leave that stuff to the other guys.

When I see things I like, I buy them. My patience has been rewarded a few times, like 86' boxcars, 89' auto racks and mill gondolas among other things. MTH even made a Northstar Rail commuter set, which I ordered the minute I saw it, even though I can't run it on my layout without converting it to TMCC.

A great movie quote from Billy Bob Thornton in Bad Santa, "Wish in one hand and *crap* in the other, and see which one fills up first." Though he didn't say crap.

Earlier this year, at a train show, I talked to a man who was selling his own brand of HO box cars, made in the USA. 

I just talked to him yesterday.

His investment was around $50,000  for tooling. And he uses a local plastic company for production. 

He now does specialty runs for Museums and commemorative runs for clubs also.

Perhaps I should have titled this WANTING, but there would then be the negative nancies out there who would **** on that too..So I titled it wishing, because you can’t always get what you want, but what you wish for, carries its own motivation driven by desire. And I have made my wishes come true. 

That is a great story....not cheap and hope it pays..not impossible to make something else, and in America.

I once talked to the guy from Caboose Industries, the company that makes the ground throws in all scales. My request was for the really cool tall switch stand, that they only make in HO, to do it in O. He explained the costs involved, and I decided that it wasn't going to happen (even though I had the money). I then bought a bunch of the regular ones, and never looked back. Would have been cool though.
