Week 9!

We are moving into the home stretch of this project. That means I am running out if junk motors to identify, a clear message that I need to buy more junk.

Earlier on this board I mentioned that I acquired over a dozen "junk" or derelict motors to develop my repairing skills. The motors were represented to me as Lionel post war production. I don't know what they are or what locomotives they would belong to. Can you help?

To add to interest I intend to post a new motor every week until the inventory is identified. The  expert who I.D.'s each week's motor will be awarded a "Certificate of Awesomeness"  from yours truly as a token of admiration and appreciation. Last week's  Certificate of Awesomeness was awarded to Carolina Shagger, whose immediate identification of the 675M-1 motor for 675 and 2025 locomotives pre-empted all other identification.

So I put it to you, expert brothers and sisters, please: 1.) identify the motor; and 2.) Identify the locomotive(s)

it powered.  Be very specific!

Thanks!

Here is this week's motor:

The biggest clue is the lack of wheel's hole to connect siderods. The 591 was rodless.

I think I've read the diesel switchers used these too, though most were not spoked wheels. The small diesels (or steam I haven't seen naked yet) had a different frame, though kinda similar, it had an upward vertical extention and lip (an inverted L ) to fasten it from above by screw.

You gentlemen are amazing, and awesome!

George was 100% right that it is a Marx motor, but did not identify it with specificity. Chuck I.D.'d it as a one way motor used on the 591. Adriatic added its use on diesel switchers. Mitch gave compelling analyses but stopped short of a specific ID. Steve confirmed Chuck's and Adriatic's statements.

I would like to give Certificates to all, but given the rules of  MOTW  the Certificates of Awesomeness for Week 9 go to Chuck with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters, and to Adriatic with an OLC since this is his second Certificate.

Here are your Certificates of Awesomeness, gentlemen:

The expertise and train lore you bring to this forum are astonishing in their depth and scope. Well done!

On a totally separate matter, today I signed up for the York gathering. This will be my first time at York. It would be an absolute pleasure to put faces to names and get acquainted in October if you are going. This goes for all the experts who have contributed their knowledge to MOTW. If you would be so kind as to message me privately  with some pointers on the event it would be a kindness, as well.Thanx!

Pete
