MOW Equip Question | O Gauge Railroading On Line Forum

Once a piece of equipment is assigned MOW duty and painted yellow, orange, etc is that the "end of the line" for a particular unit? Are they ever recalled (repainted) back into revenue service? Obviously specialized equipment designed specifically for MOW work would stay but I'm wondering about generic stuff like gondolas, box cars, flat cars, hoppers, caboose, etc.

Normally they are condemned and scrapped after that.

CSX had a gp40 9716 painted orange that was later rebuilt into CSX 2348 road slug.
