In a lot that I just acquired was a 5122 switch in original box with controller. I tested the switch but the controller lights didn't come on, so I took the cover off to check the bulbs. Here's what I found.
There are no light sockets, but it doesn't look like anything was removed. Did it have lights or are those bulb covers just dummies to make it look like older controllers ?

Yep, no lights. The lenses are there for show. There are also some with the lenses eliminated entirely.

I remember when I got my first batch of 027 switches and controllers. I never had switches growing up and couldn't wait to see the illuminating red and green lights. Boy, was I ever bitterly disappointed. I could not believe they would put those lenses on there without sockets and bulbs. That was 45 years ago and I remember it to this day. A real bummer.
