C&O fans in for a BIG surprise

Nice catalog. I'll look forward to viewing it in more detail.
Yeah, another Big Boy.

Always loved the C&O steam turbine and Art Deco coaling towers and I was thrilled when they announced it long ago in Proto1. Unfortunately they did not produce the Vista Dome equipped Chessie streamliner passenger train with a Vista Dome observation for it to pull. If the catalog illustration is correct we'll pass on this one too. Don't need rivet counter correct domes, just a close replication. Rather than a full dome, it's time for MTH to change the observation car tool so they can produce dome observation cars when needed. (I'm guessing we'll never see MTH Budd cars with fluted roofs.)
Nothing really new except the C&0 steam turbine. This is at least the 5 or 6 time for the SP GS- 4 daylight and they still have not added the brake hoses on the front pilot. Ironically, their HO ànd G gauge versions have them. Didn't go as far to see if there were any new European engines, of which, they do a very nice job.
Nothing new.
Glad they brought back the C&O Turbine and UP Coal Turbine. Im intrested in the UP unit and the NYC Empire State Express from the Railking line.
I'm relieved, no Milwaukee Road that I am looking for.

Some long absent lines return like RF&P and L&N in particular.
What is new are some individual diesel model price jumps:
- Page 80-81. SD70Ace diesels are up $20 over the 2017 v2 $499.95. UP Ace with Flag up $30. The UP Spirit $30 differential is understandable with the additional paint masks but the others? What has changed?
The plated stainless 18” Santa Fe passenger cars will be great with my Legacy warbonnets on order.
I like the IPL 4-bay hopper.
Wish the R50B was available in NKP.
Oh my...
Six-car sets of Amtrak Auto-Train autoracks.
My Auto-Train may just reach prototypical length after all

Pretty much. Just new Paint schemes. However...
Amtrak Fan's - Second chance for FP45's!
Faux paint schemes on an otherwise beautiful Canadian 100 Ton Hopper car. NOT buying them.
I see MTH copied Scott Mann's ALCo demo's and no Passenger car set to go with it. [ Gee Andy- So much for "boring dip Demo paint Schemes! Maybe you will Paint the ALCo FA-2's and the
EMD SD80 in the Demo scheme after all!]
I am intrigued on the GP40 repower Demo unit. I have to find out the year that was done. A little web research shows somewhere around 2008-2007.
For the first time in several, four or five, years there are several interesting things -- yes, all reissues from the past, but in most cases reissues from more than 5+ years ago, first time in PS3.0 or even 2.0 outside of the 5v board, good or bad, I am in for:
C&O Turbine, UP Coal Turbine, Alco PA in war bonnet (passed on the GGD versions), a "b" unit for the NYC E8 in green, and the Railking FP45s.
Can someone explain the fascination with experimental steam turbines that failed? The fascination began with the endlessly and universally reproduced PRR S2 of which only one prototype was built. What's next, "Jawn Henry"? Sunset reproduced both "Jawn" and "Chessie"
There are so many locomotives that succeeded and are ignored, both past and present. My favorite being the SIRT BL20G, which can also be offered in various MNCR color schemes:
To balance the scales I offer one of my least favorites, the GE 70 Tonner in NYCTA, that Forum regular "SIRT" and others have been suggesting for years. How about a Milwaukee Road specific GP38-2?

Simple: They're "big engines."
Size matters. Big sells, small doesn't.
(I'm getting a chuckle with the PRR turbines lettered for UP and C&O...)

Yeah well, some of us enjoy seeing new road names. And with limited space, I can’t run the bigger Premier engines. Seeing those Railking Boston & Maine and Monon units is a thrill. Also love that beautiful red Norfolk & Western Geep. They’ll make some money off of me this time.
I’ll get out of this one cheap... just an O&W NW2. And not that fictional paint scheme calf unit. 🙄
Since when did the Akron, Canton & Youngstown support an FM trainmaster?
I don't see a 100 ton Canadian hopper car. Which page is it?
AWESOME! CTA El cars are back. I’ll be placing an order on a couple of sets. Just waiting on the Cubs World Series version next!!
The M-1 and No. 80 are for me -- alas, don't have the $2400 for them.
auto-train Corporation auto carriers again look great. BUT WHERE ARE THE PASSENGER CARS???????????????????????
Seriously, what are they thinking?
It is nice to see Union Railroad stuff being produced again! There are also some nice P&LE offerings.
Very cool!
NYO&W fans rejoice! NW2! (But I'm not interested in the calf unit!)

I'm safe and it give me time to take care of my Lionel PreOrders: Conrail F7 and NYC Niagara.

And what's the point without matching U36B diesels to pull them?
I have to give MTH an Attaboy for the flatcars carrying M10 Tank Destroyers and Half Tracks with Quad 50 cals on them in both Railking and Premiere. Too bad I am finished building my military train or I would be out some bucks. Maybe I will order one of each just for the heck of it.

Nothing at all for me in this one, but that's OK since I have three big Lionel Stemmers on order along with some rolling stock.

Perhaps nothing new, but the near-impossible-to-find Northern Pacific premiere passenger car set. The catalog makes it appear that Premiere is now a four car set with the fifth car as an addon - I don't know the reality, that was my quick perception.
And NP matching engines.
Nice to see MTH did an 8888 CSX SD40-2 and acknowledged the existence of Unstoppable. Though since I just got my custom painting of that movie's locos done, I'm actually relieved there wasn't a 1206 or something in this catalog.
Apart from that, nothing really caught my fancy.

The number of "copies" built and the ultimate demise of any prototype has no bearing on its being interesting or desirable as a model. If that were the metric (so 2010's!) for production of models, no steam locos and most diesels (seen any F3's or Erie Builts in the yards lately?) and practically all electrics do not belong in any catalogue.
A better question might be: do we need more GP anythings?
I would love to see a well-done Jawn in RK Imperial, and the C&O turbine, too. And a PRR Q-1 (the Q-1, not the Q-2). I can run the big stuff, but a nice RK Imperial (or Lionmaster) would enable me to enjoy the design at a better price and length. The RK Triplex is a good example of an Imperial home run.
That scale Chessie on a curve makes a UP 4-8-8-4 look like a switcher.
Yes DP500. I can ues some chopped nose geeps- as well as others here on the forum. I also don't see any Conrail GP38-2's. Only Conrail geeps- were the ps1 CQ quality ww white stripe and the bicentennial scheme.
I am also surprised that MTH has NOT painted a GP40 into Amtrak.
Finally
Virginian 44 Tonner!!!!!
Scott Smith
I like the Western Maryland GP7.
The Freedom Train!!!!!!
TTX High Cube Boxcar
Northern Pacific Dome Car
Southern Pacific Madison RPO Car?
Southern Bay Window Caboose
Others:
Black CSX SD40-2 #8909
Union Pacific SD40-2
NS Maersk SD40-2
Chessie System GP40 GM50
No love for NY NH & H fans
Not much of interest for me this time. I'll just be getting a couple of GP35s, the Southern and the Soo Line bicentennial unit.
The wait for my Southern K class Consols continues...
