Yes, it does operate on just about any track with control rails, including the old Lionel O and O27 operating tracks.

Anything from about 14-18 volts AC should work fine.
I was just about to pull the trigger on an MTH log dump car, $50.00 to the door, but opted, instead, for the Williams by Bachmann log dump and the wireless remote. Spent alot more money but I don't have to rely on UCS or OCS track sections.
