MTH 44 Ton PS 3 as donor?

Looking for advice from the PS gurus. I've performed a few PS upgrades using donor engines in the past.

I have an Atlas O AEM 7 that I've been wanting to upgrade. Space is an issue for an upgrade. I can't even get one of the pros to touch it.

I understand the MTH 44 Ton is a "S" gauge board and is smaller. Is that board setup to run only that small engine? Could that board be used with any O gauge model? Would the larger motor in the Atlas engine be a potential problem with frying the PS 3 board?
