I tried that and it says the upgrades won't work with the DCS Explored, and that I have to replace the DCS Explorer hardware with a DCS WIU and TIU.  I guess that means I can't upgrade until I get the WTIU and hook it up?

I guess it also means I have to buy the WTIU first before I can even find out if it is compatible with my Samsung Tab A?

In App settings there should be a check box for either Explorer or WIU / WTIU.  Make sure WIU / WTIU is checked.  That may force an update through.

If you switch the app to the WIU/WTIU in the app settings menu, you can purchase the upgrades. I'd wait until you have the device in hand.

I have used a Samsung Tab A in the past and it worked just fine. Download the app on it and run your trains with the free version of the app to determine if it is compatible, doesn't cost anything to do that. If everything works on the free side, then buy the upgrades within the app.

Remember that the upgrades are tied to your Google account so if you have other Google devices that you want to use with the app, just make sure they are associated with the same account and you will not have to purchase the upgrade again when you install the app.

Thanks,

That sounds like sound advice

That worked.  Two purchase options show up.

Standard (WiFi DCS)  $4.99

Premium (WiFiDCS)  $24.99

H1000 suggested I try the WTIU with my Samsung Tab A first using the free version to see if they are compatible before I upgrade the app.  I think I will do that.

Thanks again,

Yes.  This has been the case since the Rev. L TIU.

This one on Amazon worked perfectly.

Rev L still had a serial port that could be used to connect to Legacy.  It had a USB port for both a PC or the WIU to connect to.  That being said I had an original TIU without a USB port that I used a serial "Y" and serial to USB to connect to the WIU.

You're right, I was confusing it the WIU USB port when using a pre Rev. L TIU.

But still, it should work the same I would think assuming the USB port on the new WTIU sends the commands out on the serial TX lines.
