MTH 50-1901 PS2 Steam Conversion

If you can follow instructions and solder wires, you can most likely do this upgrade.  Take your time on the first couple, they get quicker after a few.

HI john any idea where i can purchase a PS 2 kit 3 volt, nobody seems to have them and i was hoping to find one for my big boy,mth say's they can't get them anymore and also don't know when the ps3 will be out either, Am i stuck in limbo?

You are in limbo.  I bought a bunch when they were available, I'm busy working my way through them for upgrades, soon I'll be needing more!

John i have to choices, i have ps 2 3volt boards so i either need the wire harness for the steam engine kit 50-1901 or the kits them selves, do you know if i can buy the wire harness's from mth directly as I'm a member  since i joined or not, they would sell me the kits that's why i joined like you said . just exactly what can i buy from them being a member!

I don't have any kits to sell, I have upgrades waiting to use up my stock.  As far as a complete harness, I believe that is frequently the pacing item for the kits, I recall it was the last time there was a shortage.  There is no part number for the kit harness, at least none that I've ever heard of.

John there is a mth part number for the wire harness,

BC-1000005=tender wire harness

BC-1000003=locomotive wire harness

CC-0000062=tender marker led's

Aren't these the mth part numbers These numbers are right in the kits paperwork!

Like anyone else who isn't an authorized MTH tech, you can purchase pretty much any parts MTH may have in stock, excep, PS2 or PS3 boards (unless in an upgrade kit).

What's the big hurry? These are for your own engines, correct? Just be patient and, in the fullness of time, kits will once again be available.

understand. also Barry you keep telling me to get your book on DCS well I've been waiting for you book for almost a month just so you know, but my hobby shop has not got the book in yet from mth. ok

If you don't have them, you'll also need the heatsink and the battery harness.

And the speaker and the battery too:-)  IC-0000023 is the steam hardware kit.  G

Or IC-0000020 if you already have a battery and 4 ohm speaker, a bit cheaper.

Thanks John and George i also ordered the speakers and harnesses, i already have the heat sinks as soon as they come in ordered them a couple of weeks ago I also have had the PS 2 3 volt boards for a while now i found a place to get them so have plenty of ps2 boards.Thanks for all your help guys!

So how did you make out with the TIU John, George give you any idea's to try on it!

I think the TIU is a goner, I don't see any additional stuff I might try.

i have three PS 2 3 volt boards at the moment but there are already set aside for upgrades and some of my repairs. If i can get more how many do you need?

been mth customer since the beginning- have 37 premier proto 1 engines- cant find ps2 upgrade kits anywhere- please help. mth said they wished to sell out stock of ps2 uprade kits before selling ps3 upgrade kits- v poor for long term customers/ entusiast like me- had 1 engine upgrade to ps2 6 years ago, they had engine 9 months- prefer to try myself- v few- perhaps 3 auth shops left in NJ- mth never deletes authorized dealer listings from mth web sit york comes and goes w no proto3 or proto2 upgrade kits found anywhere so far- not most effective business model. Please help finding ps2 kits 

There are some listed in the For Sale forum.

They have transitioned to PS-3 upgrades for Steam.  They released a few to get some more test data in.   So you may find one, and there may be dealers who have PS-2 in their stores.

Diesel need harness made up.  I do think they thought they were getting more PS-2 boards, but that may not be in the cards.  So we are in this transition period for upgrade kits.

Plus they always made a batch, than you had to wait for the next run.  G

I contacted Midge to try and find out if they would be selling PS3 kits at York and was told no upgrade kits would be for sale either PS2 or PS3. That doesn't mean they don't have any but you will have to call or email to find out if they are in stock.

There out of stock.  Sales handles that, and I talked to them earlier this week.  What I stated above is kind of were they are at right now.

I talked to MTH in Maryland the other day and they told me the PS 3 kits will be available in JUNE 2015
