Hello,   I have a MTH Alco PA diesel set and am having a sound issue with it.  This is the Non-ProtoSound version of this engine.  At the time I purchased it, I didn't know the difference between the  two versions, just loved the Alco design.  This was a new in box but obviously, sat on a shelf.  The diesel horn never worked.  Just screeched and stayed on.  I disconnected one of the small yellow wire nuts and silenced it.  There is no model number on the box or the operating instruction sheet.  No dates either as to manufacture.  I sent an email to the MTH help website but so far, no response.  I see two circuit boards in the engine and without a schematic, don't know where to start.  I read about the MTH speaker problems but not sure if this is a speaker problem or a problem in the boards.  Hopefully, someone here has some knowledge of this engine and where to start the repair.  Another question I have is the walkway flexible device located between the engines.  I purchase a powered "B" unit and it has this device on both ends and I'd love to find these to add to the "A" units.  What are they called and are they specific to MTH engines or would a Lionel part work if Lionel made them.     Thanks for your help.    BobAlco DieselSpeaker wire disconnectedSpeaker

Hi G,    Thank you for your reply and suggestion.   I received some very helpful information from a MTH service tech off line and helped me identify my engine.  I forgot to add a detail about my engine that I thought wasn't relevant.  That being, the words embossed in the shell "Mike's Toy Trains".   Seems my engine was produced by Mike Wolf before MTH was incorporated.  The bad news is there were no schematics or parts list produced for them.  The good news (for me at least) is that I've learned a lot about the history of MTH and Mike Wolf and have a bit of history that I'm running (in conventional mode).  My plan is to buy a LionChief Plus 2 or Legacy engine and run it on 3 rail tubular track with my childhood conventional engines.  Learned on this forum to isolate parking spur track with relays to avoid any potential problems.  Thanks to all of you helping us newbies.     Bob
