Mth alco s-2 issues

hello all, I have an Mth alco S-2 with ps2.0. At slow speeds it's very jerky and stalls out. It seems to do ok on curves but not on straits or over switches. Any advice? I can't seem to find the issue.

The speed control may be starting to go.
